I disagree with the posts on its looks. Compare it to some of the Sitka gear ads and it fits right in. If I were to buy a gun for hunting sheep, this would be high on my list. The stock colors are always going to be controversial. I think Kimber hit the target they were looking for, though its not my forte. Heck, I just bought a 84L Classic with nice piece of walnut and blued finish.

I think, it is a winner.

As is - I see me blowing my tips from last season on this for sheep.

On the website - they only show .308 Win.

7mm-08 Rem, 260 Rem., 243 Win. (???)

If .308 me thinhs a 130 TTSX would be sweet.

Honestly - what is the big deal?

If the stock does not impress - paint is cheap.

Barrel is to long anyway - 20" and be rid of the muzzle break.

Whats not to like?

Your right with some paint the stock is the only part that could be fixed... no thought was put into the metal work at all, they really missed the boat on this one, but if you like it.. you only have you to make happy!

The muzzle brake, it's worthless.

You can shoot it over a bench to test loads and site in but your point of impact will change if you pull it.
If you don't pull it, are you going to wear ear plugs while hunting? You WILL damage your hearing without them. Some people no doubt like going around saying UH?

And what seasoned hunter would want to wear earplugs while hunting? It's not a long range rifle where you set it on a bag and take your time to set up for a shot.

Or, excuse me Mr. Sheep Guide, can you hold my rifle while I put in my ear plugs. Oh btw,
you better put yours in too.

The brake is nothing but added cost by another $200.00+.
The paint is worthless.
It only has a 20" barrel and for a long action cartridge? Not for me.

SU,

we are on the same page regarding the muzzle break. Hence my comment above.

I differ on the plugs.

Any seasoned hunter should use them.

Rifles - with and without muzzlebreaks - are far above the damage threshold.

I do, when shooting myself. When guiding and my hunter shoots, I either find time to put them in or plug my ears with my fingers.

Anybody not using hearing protection is not risking hearing damage but accepting it.

If you can afford to go sheep hunting (or really, any sort of hunting) then you can afford a Walker's Game Ear. Try one, you won't go back to damaging your hearing, ever. The only thing better on the end of a rifle than a muzzle break is a titanium suppressor.

Variety is a good thing. I wouldn't turn it down, that's for sure.
Happy with my MT though.

I've seen used, like new, NULA's for the same price of the Ascent.

Please tell me the 308 comes in a short action. A rifle this light begs for a 7mm-08 and a 260 Rem version.

That is borderline too light for a 270Win.... 7mm-08 would be perrrrrrrrrrrfect!

Maybe that says more about the real value of a NULA than it does about the Mountain Ascent blush

The Mountain Ascent street price will probably be around $1500. Same as the CM Forbes rifle.

So is it SS or not?
Stock is not my favorite color, but no worse than the ugly Grey Plastic look of my Montana. And bare SS has never been cool to see. For oohs and aahhs it hasta be Walnut/Blue.
And just betting that if McMillan was hawking the paint scheme plenty of dudes would be lining up to pay double for one---as the "McSwirly" proves.

I handled a Kimber 74L Montana in 30-06 today, the dealer was asking $1199.00. Weight was listed at 5lb 10oz. Nice BUT I would rather wait for a Forbe's Rifle for another $200 I think it would be a better and lighter gun.

The other day I also checked out bass Pro's special fluted barrel Tikka's at $599 and only 5lb 12.5oz I could have 2 for the price of a Kimber. You may not like the stocks but how many have you seen that didn't shoot? I have had 8 and they all shot good to great!

Now you're back in familiar territory.

Probably should look at the Ruger American thread.

If both are $1500 I reckon the Ascent would get my loot$ if I wanted a rifle for my son.....
Just more bang for ya buck from what I can see...... confused But will the Ascent shoot.... confused
