First rifle I've ever had put together in my life, I can see why folks like custom rifles now.

1960 action with a 24" Pacnor #3 in 300 Win Mag and one of the fake wood stocks by McMillan, 14" lop. Steadiest rifle I've ever held offhand, amazing how things work when they're made for you.

Mr. Redneck did the smithin, and a fine job he did:

Wow. Not much to not like about that one! And Redneck does a fantastic job, I've heard.

Super looking rig there, CFVA!

Been thinking about something along those lines myself, even with that same stock! What does she weigh as pictured there?

Did you start with a Mag action, or did Redneck "convert" it for you?

best,

Bob

Thanks everyone.

BlackBart - It was a magnum boltface, standard length action. Started life as a 264. It's got a fair jump to the lands because of the mag restrictions, but it doesn't seem to mind. Weighs 8 lbs 11 oz as seen in the picture, I could have saved some weight in the stock and a couple ounces in the rings but I think it keeps a little more of the pre-64 look the way it is now. I carried a 8 lb 10 oz Rem 700 all over CO this fall and don't remember ever thinking it was too heavy, so I doubt the extra ounce will kill me.

DINK - It's the pre-64 Monte Carlo pattern, last time I looked McMillan had one identical to it but with a 13 1/2" LOP in their specials page. That'd be the one they made for me with the wrong LOP, but it was priced way more than I paid for this one???

Thanks, everybody.

I'm pretty tight when it comes to money, so something like this is a first for me. Now I'm thinking it'll save me some money in the long run, as I can't find any justifiable reason to buy any more rifles in the .277 caliber and up range. Even caught myself staring at some of the other rifles in my safe wondering if they'll get used now.

a custom on a Pre'64 is a very nice way to go...even with modern touches like a fibreglass handle. I have one done in 308 Norma with a McMillan Supegrade stock and another in the works in 35 Whelen with an Edge handle. As well as factory Fwts in 30-06 and 243....love Pre'64'M70's. I like the Pre'64 Monte Carlo stock too,...wish one would show up on McM's internet specials...

I had an original Pre'64 in 300 Win Mag a few years back and the lack of mag box length was the deciding factor in going with the 308 Norma on my latest build...although yours sure doesn't mind the jump to the lands...
