Thanks for an interesting piece of history. Although I was a history major in college I had never heard of the incident before. I will have to do a little more research on the subject. Has anyone written a book about the "war?" I would certainly be interested in reading it.

was the old "walking tall" movie based on this incident, a different incident, or completely made up?

The "Walking Tall" movie(s) was/were very loosely based on a completely different but basically true incident that occurred in McNairy County located over in the western part of TN on the TN/MS state line. In the original "Walking Tall" movie, Joe Don Baker, played the part of sheriff, Buford Pusser.

Thanks for the thread. I haven't thought about that in a while. cool
That example is truely the reason the Second Amendment was drafted into the Constituion....
The father of a friend that I grew up hunting with in Tellico Plains TN was a participant in the siege. His dad is Bill White, He owns the old tellico lodge property between the bald river falls and the fish hatchery on the tellico river. He was one of the returning GIs that took over untill the federal gov could take control of the situation. If you want more insite heres one book that I know of that was written on it.

great restaraunt in athens called the country patch. good country cooking. it burnt down but it was rebuilt.

My idea of being organic is taking a dump in the woods.
