Heres some pix of the Marlin that I aquired recently. With some help in my other post, I am almost certain that it is a Texan. Wanted to post some pix and let some of you Marlin guys help me to be sure.

Serial number AB15xxx, 30-30, 20in bbl, brass saddle ring, gold trigger, straight stock barrrel marked 336 RC. Thanks!

Hawkin,

Thanks. Did you put the big loop lever on, or did it come like that? I like it.

I bought it from wild west guns. It was expensive; but I can wear heavy gloves while hunting with it now.

I've got 2 of those that I bought when I was 14 yrs old. One for me and one for Dad. I've got several dozen rifles now and have given Dad several really nice rifle over the years but even now at the age of 84 when we go deer hunting he only uses his Marlin 30-30. He's always liked his new rifles but only hunts his Marlin.

It's a fine example of a Texan.

Nice find.

Nice Marlin RC but thats a SRC not a Texan. The Texan should be marked 336T and has an 18 inch barrel. You have the Saddle Ring Carbine. Marlin made a Glenfield model of the Texan and it was called the Model 30 GT.

Not really. Any straight stocked 336 rifle is considered a Texan (even the Marauders). The only ones ever marked with a T after the 336 were the TS, LTS and TK.

No big deal Andy, I looked for a Marlin 336T or 336Texan for years before I realized they did not exist.

.

My Texan is a 30-30 made in 1985. I had to replace the butt stock when I got it, everything else is like new.

This is my Glenfield model 30GT that I bought new in 1979. It's put a lot of meat on our table.

Barrel length is 18 inches. Some say that shorter barrels are less lethal but this big South Dakota buck never knew what hit him. Shot was taken at about 125 yards or so. One shot through the chest organs did the job, quickly. (public land and un-guided hunt. what a thrill!!)
