Lucca's is the best place by far in Helena. Open Wed-Sunday, reservations recommended. Food is excellent, service fantastic and great wine list. I'm here if you have any other specific questions and obviously the Grand Poobah is a great source of info.

Wine, you have got to be kidding me. Wine is fer girls! They have a full liquor license if wine ain't your thing. It ain't mine neither..... If you want great food, Lucca's is your place. If you want good food, any of the other establishments mentioned will work. The Windbag is good as well and they have good beer on tap as well. For local micro's, the Lewis and Clark Brewery and the Blackfoot both have great tap rooms and have a great after work crowd. Three beer minimum for the tap rooms though, dammit!

Oberndorf Mauser from an old G&H .350 G&H mag turned into a .416 Rigby. Wish the action could talk....the rifle was used a lot before the conversion. Action is the only original part.

Montana Historical Society - a great place, particuarily if you like western art.
drover
223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

Another must see is a boat trip down the Gates of the Mountains. Not sure if they'll have the tour boats running yet but if you can wrangle a boat ride through there it is not to be missed. I was out there this weekend and the fishing was excellent! www.gatesofthemountains.com/

These were big rainbows.
Most in the 18-22 inch size range.
We caught 17 in about two hours of fishing Sunday.
Still should be pretty good fishing for trout when you're here. Walleyes will probably be pretty closed mouth, it's about spawning time for them then.

I wish I were going to be there at that time. I will be home from the Bakken for Easter, and then back. On the 28th, I'll be in Glasgow at the Ice-breaker shoot. I like the Brewhouse for beer and food. Silver Star is the up-town place. Luccas I've heard is good. I know the owner, don't really care for him. Gary Marbut's long range shoot in Potomac is on the 12th, I believe. Too bad you won't make that. A LOT of fun, and learning. The Museum has the mount of Que-Quia, the white buffalo from the Bison Range in Moiese, where I grew up. He wasn't totally albino, he had dark eyes and feet, and a black top-knot. He was about 30 when he died, I believe, right before I was born. Never did get to see him. He looks pretty scraggly because of his age, but still worth it to see. Have a Beltian for me at the Brewhouse with these other guys, and pretend I was there.
I think, therefore I am, conservative.
