I like Varget under 62 grain TSX bullets just fine, but I use a lot of TAC as well. Lately I avoid the rel powders as some have said they were temp sensitive.

Where can you find the best deals on 8lb jugs of Varget and TAC?
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

cheap 55s I'd probably lean hard to see if mil surp was still out there.... cheap bullets call for cheap powder IMHO.... WC844 IIRC is for 55ish, 846 for 62ish... but its been over 10 years since I did any of that type of loading.

Yep, if you are going to be shooting cheap bullets it would be senseless to spend the money on cannister-grade powders. Just buy some 844 or 846. It doesn't get any better than that for FMJ.

You can't get cheaper that Accurate Powder and while the lot to lot consistency may be crap, that's not an issue for the OP, I would guess. Powder Valley has AA 2230 for $129/8 pound jug or $18/pound. I used some of that in the past and it metered extremely well. (Crap, what Barry said. I need to learn to stop doing other things while replying to a thread.)

Right. Now that explains how that trajectory formula found its way into the piece of code I was writing.

Also, I mixed up an Oracle trigger with an AR trigger. That was not pretty.

The great minds are always busy and swamped... a few crossovers now and then are to be expected.

Any good advice is worth repeating at least 3 times. At least, that's how often I have to repeat myself before my kids listen.

I have had good luck with H335 and Varget. Varget works with 55 grain and heavier bullets. I have not bought TAC before but may try it after all the recommendations here on this forum. Bullet weight and barrel length will affect accuracy with different powders. With a short barrel you need a fast enough powder to burn before it exits the barrel. This is typically not a problem in 223 cal round but can come into play on the extreme ends of barrels and bullets.

I think TAC and H335 is about as good as it gets if you want/need a ball powder - hell, they are close to the top if you include the extruded and hybrid powders! I still like my RL15 since I do both the 308 and 223 with the same, and do pretty good with both.

I just tried CFE223 with some good results. The image shows 77gr Nosler Custom Competitions loaded to 2.260". I varied the charge as show. The rifle is a custom w/Vltor upper, Yankee Hill 20" 1 in 7 twist.
