Jeff is that your hand or is a Yeti holding the ruler for you? Thinking the same thing. And we call them "Sasquatch".  Is it that hairy?! Yikes.  Blackheart: I do ok offhand-- those apples would be in trouble-- but I agree to a point. The big gap in my shooting is 200, 250 yards... where a guy could certainly need to be able to make an offhand shot, or build a quick position to shoot from. This may haunt me if I get the high desert mule deer tag I'm likely to get this year. I'll try to PMCOTC and do some of that type shooting- sitting with a tight sling, leaning against a tree, etc. I don't see the problem with using modern gear to do... uh... modern things. A very accurate rifle, a scope that tracks, a LRF, and some high-BC bullets is a pathway towards a certain type of fun and, (not claiming I have it) skill. My goal for the spring/summer is twofold. Sub-MOA at 600 yards, consistently, and to get better at reading wind so that 1st-shot hits at that range become routine. One more thing Blackheart. Whether this has any actual hunting utility for me, I don't know. I get pretty amped up at killing time. I did fine at ~300 yds on an elk a few seasons ago but adrenaline might render all my practice moot at (say) 600, regardless of what I can do to a steel plate. Anyway... it's a fun hobby, and there's always more to learn.

For this Imaginer 600 yds is a challenge in a hunting context- meaning first-shot hits almost always. 450-500 is pretty much in the bag as far as just hitting a vitals-sized plate.
