Hey fellas,
Just curious what you'd do for a dedicated LR rig if you had about $2000 to play with for rifle and glass. It'd be chambered in .243AI.

I think a 700 action, 24" #3 or #4ish contour throated for the AMAX at like 2.8-2.9", dropped into a Game Scout with Edge Fill, Talley's and 3.5-10 or perhaps 4.5-14x40 with M1s would be freaking stellar. Plus, you could still pack that dog around and hunt the heck out of it.

BTW, let's do two different categories- Your choice for a +/- factory rig, and custom builds.

Jordan, I did the "factory" category: Montana 257 Roberts (new): $1,100 IT&D rebarrel to 243AI (SS Douglas 8 twist 6 groove): $440 FX3 6x42 M1 $475 Talley LW lows: $40 all in I'm a little over your $2,000, but I'm happy...

I'd make sure and have the bbl twisted for the 115gr Berger and 115gr DTAC. 1/7.7 seems pretty popular.

Savage Axis with a 243AI ER Shaw barrel and a 6-24 Bushnell Banner in Talley LWT's of course.
Light done right...

$1500 for the Nightforce leaves you $500 for a used SPS 243 to punch out.

I`m in the process of doing that now. But it`s going to be 7mm. We`ll square the 700 action, barrel from pac-nor, #4 contour, 26 inch, 9 twist 5 groove CM, Wby chambering and throat. All stuck in a McMillan. Glass is stright 10x, SS. We`ll do all the work, including barrel install. Deer, rabbits, woodchucks, crows and other stuff. We`ll start at three, and work out.

Factory rifle ? How about a Ruger in 6.5 Creedmor ? If you must have a .243AI, then how about a Ruger Predator Rifle rebarreled in .243 AI ? E

Haven't done a lot of research on this, so go easy on me. What does a 6x47 Lapua do that a 243 or 243AI doesn't? Thanks!

My 243 came in about that price range. 8 twist brux light palma, rem action single point trued by Jim See, B&C stock, currently wears a Nitrex 6-20x50 but has a Vortex Viper HS 5-15x40 mil/mil on back order for it.

I have a 6.5x47 Lapua in a trued 700 action with a Kreiger barrel but in an HS stock with HS bottom metal. It's wearing a Leupold Mark 4 6.5x20 50mm scope.
