Got an I phone and trying to figure it out. My daughter is dranging me into the modern world. Looks to me like 99% of what is installed would never be of use to me. I will use the maps and the GPS sometimes but what else is worthwhile? What do you all find handy?

Based on some advice I got on the handguns forum, I downloaded a shot timer app. I haven't tried it with an actual gun yet, but it worked well when I clapped my hands loudly near it. I think I'm going to check out some of the GPS apps, too.

I am not getting an I phone until they put up enough towers here so I don't have to find a hill to get a signal!

We've got towers up everywhere and our little hills are nothing compared to what you must have out there and it's still really easy to find a spot with a great signal one moment and absolutely no signal a few seconds later.

The flashlight app (ITorch4) is good. The weather channel app is great and I use it daily. There is an app called "convert free" which will change anything from lbs to kgs to $$ to Euro's.... great app. I also use the Fox Business news app to keep me updated on stocks instantly.

AroundMe
It's an App that gets your location and then tells you where the closest services are. Restaurants, gas stations, movie theaters, bars, banks, hotels, etc.
It's pretty handy.

"Over 40": uses your camera zoom and flash so you can read menu details, ammo boxes, etc w/o your reading glasses. "Where To": locates restaurants by name, style, etc. shows how far & what direction. "Blackjack Free": self explanatory. "Gas Buddy": shows gas prices near you and more. "WIFI Finder": shows where to get free public WIFI near you. (WIFI gives you faster web surfing w/o using your data plan) "Red Laser": barcode reader that will tell you if the item you are about to buy can be bought cheaper online or accross the street, also reads QR codes. "Jesus Calling": a daily message from your Saviour encouraging you to "keep the faith". Just a few I find useful & entertaining, even for us north of 50...

NOAA weather radio The weather channel Weather underground(my fav weather, very localized) Toms GPS Columbia Take Ten(outdoor checklist & tips) Backpacking checklist(can customize your lists) Topo maps Around me(pins your location via gps and shows services etc in your vicinity, from dentists to restaurants to mechanics) Merriam-Webster dictionary Yellow pages mobile Super pages phonebook QR code reader and bar code scanner Bike Tracks (bike gps, records your bike rides)
And yes, I use them all. Never had any interest in techno gizmos but a whole world opened up when I got the i-Phone a year ago.

I have an I-phone and don't know 1/2 of what it does, but I like it.
I also use it for my mp3 player, computer when the kids are on ours, Angry Birds, sometimes camera...I've been starting to use the calander for reminders because we're so busy with life right now, i'm forgetting things.
Mine is the Iphone 3GS, I'd like a newer one, but don't want the 2 year commitment on the plan, so I'm still thinking it over.

ConvertPad which does bout any coversion i can think of and many ive never heard of

GPS Essentials is kinda cool
Radar Now for weather radar
Satellite AR is kinda neat when looking at the stars as it will show yah where things like the various satellites and the space station are in the sky
Google Earth on the phone works just like it does on the computer
my phone since it was targeted for outdoor users also has an app that will tell me what the various stars and constellations in the night sky are....kinda neat for when im drinking a few beers and sitting by the campfire...
