Today me, my best bud, his brother, and their Dad packed up the truck and went up to the 1,000 yard spot. We hung up the 14" inch gong, headed back, set up, and had an absolute blast. First up was my Buddy's Dad, who taught me how to reload a while back. He's a badass with a rifle, and it didn't take him too long to get his 243Win and 85TSX combo hitting at 1k, despite the .33 BC. An 85 TSX we recovered from the dirt, and one that splattered the gong. Next, I was up with my sub 8lb 280Rem/162Amax combo. I hadn't ever shot at 1,000 before, but it went WAY better than I had hoped for. It took me 2 to get on target, and my last 3 clanged the steel loud and clear, and fell into a 9 3/4" group! The big 3 splashes in the center windage wise, and bottom left, are my 162's, and the 2 on the right side of the plate are the 140SSt's I also shot the Kimber Montana 270WSM at 1,000 and 540 yards. I scored 2 hits despite pretty heavy gusts and the 140SSt's hit that gong with some authority for sure. It was a freaking blast. I am absolutely hooked.

Good for you. That looks like fun. I have shot at 800 before but never 1000. Never would have thought the 85 tsx would be very accurate at that range

Nice going Tanner! I'm surprised you got a 270 bullet to go that far..

Anything with that 165 Matrix yet? Banging steel at 1000 will leave a grin on your face that takes a dang long time to get off.

Thanks!
V/inc, I haven't gotten another box of the 165s yet. After seeing how the 140's got blown around a little bit more than the AMAX, I will definitely pursue that bullet. I was just laffin' my ass off clanging that thing with sub 8lb rigs.

FYI,RinB called today and said he got 2800 fps today from the 23" Bartlein of his 270 with the 165 Matrix.Tanner's WSM should do better.
Man that Barnes looks like road kill!

I think the craziest part is the one next to the pancake! That thing could be loaded again! Dang, if Rick is getting 2800, I need to work up to at least 3K... Those bullets are expennnsive though

Nice shootin' Tanner. I haven't ventured to the 1000 yd territory yet but have gotten fairly close. It is indeed loads of fun. Nice work.

I was just laffin' my ass off clanging that thing with sub 8lb rigs. Trust me I got plenty of eyeballs showing up at a tactical match with my Tikka T3 .270 before deer season. When I signed in and listed my rifle and caliber the dude said "you know if your not on target at 400yards they will not let you continue". It was very very gratifying to finish towards the top of the pack with my "deer rifle". Hahahahhaha This was my entire gear load for the day, rifle, box of ammo and a rear sandbag made out of a dress sock I found under my seat and a bunch of gravel from the parking lot.

Man that Barnes looks like road kill! Confirm a regular old .270 Winchester and if so what powder? Im leaning towards H1000 or even H4831.

There's really something to be said for lightweight rigs, so long as the squeeze and load are solid!

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

8, I've never used one at all. I was thinking today about maybe grabbing one or two because of how light they are and how well they work. I'm sure even small deviations can cause a big right or left error... BSA, if sis isn't going to shoot the damn thing, I'll keep it broken in for her

Tanner I've found it much easier at longer ranges 600+ with a level. I use the holland as I like the bubble on the side.

That's something I'll have to look into if I keep shooting this LR stuff. Do you just check it before you really get into your cheek weld and getting settled behind the scope? I couldn't believe parallax wasn't an issue with that 9x Leupy.
