I am thinking about hunting SC in August or Sept. Any suggestions on where to go? I went years ago a few times. Very hot time to hunt, but I always enjoyed the trip. I was thinking about a 3 or 4 day guided hunt of some sort.

At that time it will be archery only season.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

I'm not sure of the seasons, but I had a very enjoyable hunt
with Blackwater outfitters; Terry Hiers (Close on last name ,but not sure on spelling) Great accomodations, great food. Located in Ulmer SC.

Rifle season opens in the low country aug 15 and in the central/eastern part of the state on sept 15.

I have hunted both openers and far prefer september. Shot a nice 8pt in chesterfield county on sept 18 a fee years ago. Shot him in the evening and think the temp was in the mid 90s when i dropped the hammer

August was just miserable and deer movement outside of food plots in the evening was low.

Either time, take your thermacell and enjoy it

I am from S.C. If you are going to the Low Country the season starts August 15. You do not want to go in September. Go the first week of the season in mid August when the deer are silly and getting shot left and right. If you wait until September you will actually be going at the worst possible time. The deer will have been shot at for two weeks by then and the combination of the pressure and heat makes it very difficult to do well. Once the rut starts kicking in in October things pick up a lot. September is always the worst month of the deer season in S.C. Lots of locals don't even deer hunt in September, they hunt the last two weeks of August and then shoot doves during September and then get back to deer hunting in October.

I actually used to hunt on the property that is now leased by Blackwater Hunting services. The property is loaded with deer and he has a good operation. Do not go to Bostick Plantation it is a total waste of money.

Good luck!
