Does anybody know the correct Weaver Base numbers for a Remington Model 14? I do not want the base number that is supposed to be mounted on the barrel. A number for a single piece Weaver or Redfield base for the Remington 14 would work too. I have a Remington 14 that I need to mount a scope on since my eyes seem to have gotten as old as the rest of me. Thanks!

'Just curious, why don't you want to use the 2-piece Weaver bases with the front base designed to mount on the barrel, just ahead of the receiver? I've owned Remington 14s and 141s with those bases and they worked fine.

I have seen scope mounts on Remington 14's and 141's mounted on the barrel, but have never wanted to do it. I just have an aversion to boring holes in the barrel over the chamber of a rifle. I had a gunsmith drill through a barrel when mounting a rear sight once. He went ahead and mounted the sight and didn't mention that he had drilled through the barrel. When I shot it, the sight took off for places unknown and the escaping gas blistered my thumb. I am also using a short scope and think that the front mount would be too far forward.

I ordered the two bases recommended by Weaver charts and the only way they could be mounted was to put the front mount on the barrel. I didn't know if Weaver had other mounts recommended in the past that mounted both of the scope bases on the action. I have seen this done on these rifles. I just haven't been able to get the numbers of the mounts used to do it.

I have also seen a Redfield one piece base used on the Remington 14 that looks really good and would love to find one of them.

Would 2 of the rear bases that Weaver recommends work with both install on the receiver with different spacing?

There is a step in the top of the receiver so the bases would need to be different heights.

Custom 1-piece base or (gag) a side mount?

I'd forgotten about the step in the receiver, where the locking lug locks.

I have the same reaction to a side mount. I might end up making a one piece top mount, but I would rather find an original. I'll keep looking for a while before I make one.

Did Redfield make a "turn-in" 1-piece base for the Remington 14/141 back in the 1950s & 1960s?

I have a Redfield one piece Jr type base on my 141. I took it off and looked everywhere on it for a number but found none. It does have the Redfield name and pat. number on it, but that is all. Just drilled on the top of the action with two forward screws and two back screws. Definitely made for this action and not some cobbled together base.

That was a lot of trouble to go to and I really appreciate it. I was hoping that a base would have a stock number so that I could do a search for one. I was hoping that maybe someone that had one could see the numbers on the base, but would not have asked for someone to take their base off to see if it was numbered. Thanks again!

Harry,

After reading the two previous posts, I was thinking that Redfield bases usually have the application stamped on the bottom of them. So I looked in an old 1974 Shooter's Bible, and Lo! It lists the Remington 14 and 141. The bottom of the bases should be stamped JR-14 and the factory part number is: # 511102

Were I you, I'd haunt the gun shows and the long established gun shops. Chances are, sooner or later you'll find one... smile Good Luck!

Great GH! That is exactly what I was hoping for. With a number, I have something to look for. I would really rather have a single piece base. I just figured the Weavers would be easier to come by. I think I will give it some time looking. Thanks again for the information.

Thanks GH! I'm not having much luck finding the Redfield on the internet. It just might take some time. I got a Pvt. Message with a suggestion that might work with Weavers, but I would rather get a Redfield base if I can find it.
