jwall,
I'd try them both, and see what you and your rifle prefers.
My Whelen and I like them both, with a slight preference towards Varget.
I suspect the moose I hope to shoot this Fall in Newfoundland won't know the difference. The one I got a few years ago in British Columbia said he was very impressed both with the Varget and 225 Accubond.

been using Varget since it came out ( around '96) it really woke up the Whelen, to bad Barnes dropped the 250 gr bullet it could of benefited with TTSX technology. maybe a 250gr Accubond but I doubt it with the popularity of the 225. The Whelen shines with a 250gr'er.

"....Too bad..."
Too bad indeed Brad. That 250 in either configuration would boost the B.C value and be a great bullet for the Whelen and other 35's with even more capacity.
The other barnes I miss is the 75 grain .257"

Of course, you do have to be more than a little suspicious when the animals you shoot start talking to you.
That of course applies to everyone else, and not me.
Trust me!!

Varget and TAC do everything I need to do with the whelen but I might try something different when I run out of 250s and reach for the 200TTSX.

58gr of Varget with the 225gr TSX for 2700fps. The same ammount of RL15 gave me the same speed but Varget was more accurate.

Only one load is used. The 225 gr TSX over 60 grs of RL-15. I guess great minds think alike. ;)I use 60.4 gr. of RL-15 with the 225 gr. TSX in my .35 Whelen. Velocity is 2710 FPS and groups run from .50" to .75" depending on how I'm shooting on a particluar day. I'm thinking I'll follow Murphy's second law. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Paul B.

Don't think I actually mentioned it earlier in my present Whelen 60 gr Varget gets 2763 fps 10 feet off the muzzle with a 225 gr Accubond and 58 gr with a 225 gr TSX gets 2685 fps with fantastic accuracy. Hopefully the new one will be as good.
Gerry.

In both of my Whelens either Rel. 15 or Varget give me excellent results with the 225gr bullets. With that said, each has it's individual preference, for instance, with the heavier bullets the newer Whelen prefers IMR4320, the older one doesn't. YMMV, BD

I started off with 60 gr of Varget (since I already had some)and a 225 gr bullets, and never tried any other powder. Got good accuracy with Sierras and Accubonds at close to 2700 fps. Used Accubonds on a couple of Quebec bears, one just last week. The bears and the guides were duly impressed.
