Some less popular cartridges may be fun to play with and may be good for a unique situation or rifle, but off the top of my head, I can think of a few that are of no value to me: .222 Remington Magnum, .225 Winchester, and maybe the 25 WCF in a modern rifle. In terms of personal sporting use, my current bare bones world revolves around a .22lr, 12ga, .243 Winchester, 30-06, and my personal favorite big gun the .416 Remington. But, I can always find room for a good .20ga upland gun and some good in-betweens from .22 through .35/36 caliber. So it's hard to truly identify any particular cartridge as "worthless". Even the .222 Rem Mag, .225 Win, or 25 WCF I previously noted, may be of great value to the person having such unique collector rifle in need of ammunition. Sometimes I think we take the value of our individual favorite chamberings beyond the scope of our own personal useage by taking great insult when someone else chooses differently. Great battles often ensue covering many pages filled with insult laden posts when posters disagree on personal choice. Bottom line, all have some worth, as long as they're what I have, otherwise, everything else is worthless Best

dmc- in the 80s they came out with a 1911-looking handgun that fired bullets from triangular shaped cartridges, so they would stack tighter and get more in the mag. guess whether that took off. I think they may have been called "trounds" or something like that. I had a few of them when I was a kid. My useless list 25acp 32acp 17 mach2 Anything using a rebated rim fired out of an AR-15

cb - Instead of 'worthless'......
I have no use for a 30-30 Not so!!! Should, after you've fired a .30-30, your shot look like a miss, you can always run after it, and "tweak" it before it gets to your intended target. That's funny rite air. I know the thutty thutty ain't worthless, it's just I have no use for it. Anywhere a 30-30 could be used, I can find SEVERAL good cartridges to fill the need (243, 7-08, 308, Lever Actions- FLAT SHOOTING). My personal opinion. YMMV

The introduction of the B-29 instantly made all rounds between .223 Remington and .375 H&H instantly obsolete, including the utterly antiquated and worthless .30-06. Whew! At last! I was wondering when we'd get rid of that antedeluvian relic! Only thing worse is when they necked it to .277....I have heard they are both so olde the animals have developed a strain of immune anti-bodies making them resistant to bullet strikes from either one....or so sayeth the Innanet.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Yes I do and they were taken of the market by the Fed's. as they wanted it for them selves. It went super sonic some distance from the launch site and thus made it hard to locate. Cheers NC

Most times anything bigger than a .22RF is unnecessary. Now I didn't say worthless. Noise and recoil certainly add to the memory.

Think a 6.5 Rem Mag might top many lists.
Beware of thieves, scammers and dishonest members on the "Fire" classifieds. Ya there is a thief here too. Whatever!!

Non are useless, for all of those with ammo suitable for game or paper sought after can be useful for something. Unless of course ammo is no longer made or components are not available. That would be a useless cartridge!
The .270 is the greatest hunting catridge ever designed. To dispute this fact is to only justify our loonieism in owning and hunting with inferior cartridges.

just curious as to whether there is an advantage (claimed, or discovered later) in the .450 marlin over the 45/70.
dunno about worthless, but i personally never found a use for the .308 marlin express, .338Marlin Express, or .30TC.

The only one I can think of is that the .450M isn't saddled to a low SAAMI MAP like the 45-70 is.

I thought the reasoning was so they could make a 45/70 magnum performance/like factory loads that could not go into older weaker actions, ie trapdoors etc.

Like so many things in life, the concept of "worth" is a subjective judgement based on one's sense of values.
A cartridge without value to one person may well be, and often is, another's favorite.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.
