Actually this is the 18 and for all practical purposes is the same except called the Combat Masterpiece and introduced in a 4" barrel.The 17 and 18 all came with adjustable sights but target trigger, hammer and over sized grips were optional..think they made 17's in 4" from the mid 80's to mid 90's but not positive about the dates.
