Pretty hard to overstate just how bad those pistols really were/are.........more or less pure junk.
But you know what they say..........one man's junk is another man's treasure.
Also, beauty is in the eye on the beholder.

That was the first .45 I ever had. I went to a gun show in Yakima, WA specifically to buy a 1911 (and yes my parents knew what I was doing). Found the one I wanted and went to buy it, but the guy wouldn't sell it to me because I was 17 (1983). Walked around pouting for a bit and ran into my high school band teacher. She bought it for me, and since she had a concealed permit there was no waiting period. She was also on the Washington National Guard rifle team and brought her issued M14 match rifle to school to show us. Times have changed....
Anyway, the AMT was a piece of crap! 3rd shot the extractor broke. Had it replaced, but never could get that thing to run right. That's really about the only really bad gun I've ever owned. Good luck! Hope you got a good one.
