I've seen a good deal of 286 grain reciepes -

Anyone cooked up a 250 grain load yet.

I have seen 58-63.5 grain recommnendations with results that fall into the 2550-2650 fps range, but haven't seen anyone try them yet.

JB wrote an article called Medium Mediums a few years ago and he used RL-15 and Varget to push 250s to the 2600-2650 range (in 9.3x62) in a CZ 550. in the atircle he started listing BigGame at the 270gr and up. I remember seeing a load for BigGame and the 250 recently, but can't remember where.

I have found Big Game to be too slow for 250's, though just about ideal for 286's.

60 gr of Varget pushes the 250 AB to 2606 fps in my 24" Pacnor with sub MOA accuracy out to 500 yds. My CDS elev turrets on my 1.75-6 VX3 are right on.

I am working with the RL-15 and Varget for the 250's but really really tempted to use 286 hoe ADHD with ram shot for plinking and practice due to the bullet cost factor

FWIW-I shot 286 gr Hornady on top of 58 gr RL15 with every group at 1" or under. Rifle the Ruger African and Leupold 3x scope.

The obvious conundrum here is that a 286 hornady won't penetrate any more than a 250 grain barnes or Accubond so it becomes a question of more kick or more expensive booolits.

....and the 250 Accubond @ 2600 fps runs very close drops to a 180 gr, 30-06 but with a bunch more energy! grin

AlabamaEd;

I use the same load (58grs RL-15/286gr Hor./Hor. brass)except for the primer: WLRM is used in my Tikka T3. It looks like your bullets are seated out a tad more than mine; you have a 23" and the Tikka is 22".

Mine shoots 3/4" @ 100. Scope is a Burris Fullfield II, 2 - 7 X 35mm.

What velocity are you getting? (I'm at 2422 fps)

So far I am having great luck with 64 grains of Ramshot Big Game pushing a 250 grain NAB out of a CZ550 FS @ 2400 fps. Once fired Lapua brass, WLR primers, COAL 3.315 (ogive ~2.513). This is consistently (i.e. half dozen different trips to the range) printing less than one inch for 3 shots at 100m, and yesterday gave me a 1.2 inch 4 shot 200m group (n=1, FWIW). I have played with Varget and RL15 and they are fine, around an inch +.

I see a few of us has asked the ramshot folks how fast they can push a 250 with biggame and it's a pretty high number compared to RL and Varget.

I'll try all three to see what she likes, at the moment I've shooting TSX with 56 grains of Varget, but I haven't clocked it. She cloverleafs nicely so maybe I should let sleeping dogs lay but I'm wanting to she this old girl can do so I'm gonna try some of JB's loads.

Now if it's only drop below a frigg'n 100 degrees I'd be out there shoot'n.
