About a week ago I reported on a velocity/pressure test that I shot using 12 different powders in a 22" 308 Win. This is were I ended up with a variety of Barnes and Nosler bullets. All brass was Winchester (eventually reshot 9 times), Fed 210 primers, Oehler 43 for pressure and velocity (10 ft from muzzle). Upper pressure limit of about 59,000 psi set by shooting 7 different types of factory ammo. Hornady Superperformance was consistently around 58,500 psi. This is what works for my rifle, may not work in yours. A number of these loads exceed the 2.80" OAL of a 308 Win, but my rifle has a 3" magazine box. Accuracy testing is next up. Very impressed with the relatively new 2000 MR.

Nosler 125gr. BT with OAL of 2.750

TAC 49.5 gr. 3141 fps 55,400psi
50.5 3167 54,800
51.5 3259 60,500

BLC2 52.5 3022 fps 47,800

Varget 50 3130 57,600

150 Nosler BT, .030 off lands

2000 MR 53 2938 fps 58,200
AA 2520 47 2890 58,800
TAC 46.7 2882 58,900

Nosler 150 Accubond, .030 lands

2000 MR 53 2952 fps 57,600

Barnes 150 gr, TTSX .050 off lands

2000 MR 53 2973 fps 59,900

Nosler 165 Accubond, .030 off lands

2000 MR 50 2785 fps 57,600
50.5 2798 57,200

Barnes 168 TTSX .050 off lands

2000 MR 49 2751 fps 58,200
50 2777 59,300

AA 2520 45 2694 58,800

For what I hunt and the rifle that I use, I plan to stay with 168 gr. and smaller bullets, so I don't know. I do know that Alliant doesn't tend to show 2000 MR with the heavier bullets in the 308. They tend to go to AR Comp, RL 15 and RL 17. Doesn't mean, of course, that 2000 MR wouldn't work, but I have no experience with it and the heavier bullets.

I have no idea, but 47.5grs of the stuff works pretty darn well with 178 Hornady HPBTs in my 308s.

Um, 2000MR is designed for heavy bullets in 308s.

I figure right around or a bit over 2700fps by my trajectory figures.

I had just clicked through the 175 - 180 grain bullets in Alliant's 308 Win load data and didn't see any 2000 MR listed. Good to know, thanks.

They list the 180 gr Fusion with 48.5 gr of 2000MR as producing 2760 fps. That is the only 180 gr load they list for the powder.

Logger, went up to the ranch today to get my rifle ready for this fall's hunting.

Rifle: Kimber MT 308 Win w/ 22" barrel (1-12).

Load: 50.0 2000-MR / Fed 210M / WW Brass / 165 Nosler Accubond

Velocity: 2,807 fps. Extraction seemed perfectly fine.

Didn't accuracy test, just sorted out dots to 525 yards (2.5-8x36). Only shot a 2-shot group at 225 yards... went .680"

I'm ready for this fall's hunting...

Brad:

I'm planning to use the same load if it shows decent accuracy.

I'll be playing with 2000MR through out the summer and will post my results.

Randy:

I've continued to work with the MR 2000 in my NULA 308. I've switched to Lapua brass and reduced the powder charge by 1 grain for both the TTSX 168 (49 grains) and the 165 Accubond (50.1 grains). Both are getting right at 2800 fps. My rifle seems to like the TTSX better - all the way to 400 yds. The TTSX are at .050 of the lands and the Accubonds are .030. In my rifle, at least for the TTSX, it much preferred the stoutest powder load possible.
