I have been through about a dozen Shilen's. All are accurate, good value and some are lifetime friends.

I don't like them but that was about 8 or so years ago so I'd be willing to give one a whirl again.

Shilens are the only barrels I keep in stock in my shop. I will install any barrel a customer requests but it has to be ordered. In twenty eight years of fitting barrels I have never removed one with a customer complaint. A few years ago I made up some 8mm 1919A4 barrels in SS which had to be made from 1.5 inch stock. Wade Hull of Shilen said no problem and made the special run at a very attractive price. The barrels were Stainless Steel and we blued them with 84 so one could shoot the cheap but corrosive Yugo 8mm ammo

My smallest and largest are Shilens. 17 Mach IV. 25g Berger 19g N201 at 3900fps. It does this all day long. Have a 375 H&H on a Shilen as well. Sub MOA accuracy at 300 yards. No problems at all with either one. dave
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

I am enjoying my Shilen barrels in 22-250 1-8, 260rem 1-8, 30br 1-17 is the latest. I saved considerably by ordering from Jerry "The Barrel Man" in Houston. Jerry Wilbanks will save you money on a Shilen, dont look for him in Houston as he is in Dallas

I like mine...no drama, just small groups...jim I've got one on my own rifle - M70 in .257STW.. Like you, I get nothin' but teeny groups.. Show me where it is required by Federal law to engrave it on the barrel. I think it is very necessary, but not required. Exactly... It's not required, but I won't ship out a rifle w/o the chambering stamped on it..

Shilen is my favorite of custom barrels and what i order 99% of the time when building a rifle. I also don't know of any law requiring you to stamp the cal on the barrel, but it is always a good idea to do so.

I have no problem with a Shilen barrel, but it wasn't the first, or second, barrel company I ordered from. But I've only ordered from 2 companies.
I have thus far ordered barrels based on cut rifled and contour. I realize there is no difference between cut rifled and button rifled as far as quality goes, but there it is.
Also, if I were to order a Shilen, I would want the select match grade. They're a bit more than the cut rifled barrels. I realize the normal match grade barrels are a bit cheaper.
By the way, my current 30-06 is not stamped or engraved. That will change soon enough, but if I died tomorrow probably only my wife could say it was a 30-06. And maybe she couldn't either, for all I know.

Picked up my first Shilen blank and hopefully will have the rifle ready after the first of the year. I'll be posting some results for sure.

just write 30-06 on the barrel with a magic marker
