I would be interested to see how they do. I have an uncle and cousin with Remington 722's in 244 Remington. They usually use varmint weight bullets and I always wondered how the Speer would perform. Can't go too heavy with the 12 twist .244. I have one in a 40XB and shoot mostly 60 gr. Depending on bullet shape, you could go to 90 gr., maybe heavier with a stubby bullet. DF

Dirtfarmer,
Have you tried any bullets heavier than 60 grains with the 1-12" twist? I loaded some Sierra 85 grain HPBT Game King and we tried it one of the 244's and it shot fine.

It'll shoot 85's OK. It came with a .3" aggregate factory target of three 5 shot groups. The load was 60 gr. Sierras and 3031 powder. It seems to really like 60 gr. bullets and that's what I feed it. I've never hunted game with it. It's more of a long range varmint and pest rifle and that's what it's set up for. One could probably hunt deer with 85 gr. NPT's or similar if a single shot, 10#+ rifle was desired... DF

12 twist will stabalize the following:
60g Sierra 70g sierra, 70g Hornady Sp 75g Sierra 75g Hornady's 80g Sierra Blitz(great coyote bullet) 85g Sierra 90g Speer spt
The 90g speer is great on deer and antelope, make no mistake about that fact!
You will get great accuracy with win and rem brass, if groups in the 2's and 3's will make you happy.
70's at 3400 will be no issue at all if your barrel is at least 24" long, I got 3550 out of a 26" with tiny groups.
Someone asked the question as to why go a 6/250 vs 243, you get almost the exact same velocity with 10g less powder....that's a bunch. H4895 has very low pressure and may give more barrel life than H335...you should expect 4500 rounds out of a barrel if you have the chamber cut with minimal freebore, all that extra freebore just robs you of barrel life...bullets only will jump so far before they get started crooked in the barrel.
I killed hundreds of coyotes with the 60g Sierra out of a 6 Rem and 243 at velocities of 3750-3900 fps and the 6/250 will spit them out at 3850 with ease with 38.5g of H335(your rifle may like a different load).
6/250 is a great cartridge and you will love it, just dont like some idiot throat it long.
If you can stand the difference, then consider the 6/250 AI, one of the best cartridges for a short action. I shot the 70's at 3800 out of a 28" barrel. This cartridge feeds from the magazine with ease as it looks like a long 6 BR, in fact the 6.5x47 Laupa is just a tiny bit shorter than the 6/250 AI...that tell you anything?
If you are a hunter, then I would not screw around with Lapua brass, I got unbelievable groups with Rem brass along with PMC 22/250.
Pac Nor will do a whale of a job for you with one of their super match barrels throated short, I had my chambers cut with zero freebore and a 1 1/2* leade angle on both the std and AI chambers...unreal barrel life with tiny groups first time to the rifle range.
If all you ever wanted to shoot was the 70g or 68g Bergers, then I would go a 13" twist, there are some VLD bullets out there in the 70g range that will demand the 12" twist.
I have been playing with a 6.5x47 Lapua made from Rem 22/250 cases and accuracy is outstanding at 200 yards, and this cartridge will feed from the magazine as well, you may ruminate on this cartridge as well as the 6x47 formed from 22/250 brass. I have got 15 firings on the Rem brass so far with top end loads, one full length sizing. The 6x47 Laupa is basically a shortened 6/250 AI...wonder why no one has ever pointed this out?
I formed the 6.5x47 Lapua from 22/250 brass by necking up the 22/250 brass then fireforming the brass in the chamber with 9.0g of Bullseye and the case topped off with cream of wheat, case was 95% fire formed. I could not get Lapua brass in this caliber, hence the use of 22/250 brass.
Hope all of this does not make your head explode.

Isn't the 6-250 the same as the one the TIBBS shoot's ? I think he calls it the 6XL.

Steelhead,
I was thinking 1-10" or 1-9" in case I wanted to try the 100 grain bullets.

Mine is called a 6XC....built one 6-7 yrs ago
used 22/250 brass necked down & formed to XC
now dies & brass are easy....mine is a heavy 27" w/8 twist
As mentioned..the 6BR is really tuff to beat....have a heavy
one of those too...12 twist for 70-75 gr boolits
the 6XC has confirmed p/dog kills out to 1100 yds...

"It's (.257-.22-250) has been done." The fact that it's "been done" was sorta the point, you know? The .22-250 is a necked down .250-3000 Savage, a .257x22-250 is simply a return to the parent cartridge. We have plenty of dies, cases and chamber reamers for that one!!! What accuracy will be lost by necking up a .22-250 to .243? Last I heard, it will add .178" to groups. How finicky is it to load for? Last I heard, it will take 27% more tries to find the best shooting load. If you doubt those figures I'd challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

The fact that it's "been done" was sorta the point, you know? Actually I wasn't sure.....if it was sarcasm, or more of the typical unaware stuff that gets posted so much.

Actually, it was humor about the typically 'unaware' stuff that gets asked.

Tikkanut, what made you choose the 6XC? Already had a 6BR....wanted a bit more punch/range.... If a guy was to have only one 6mm varmint rig.... The 6BR is a top performer...on a small diet...31 grs/Benchmark with a 70 gr Nosler or Sierra...buy/build an 8 or 9 twist 6BR barrel...shoot 65-90 gr varmint boolits and kill varmints a long ways away...I've been using the same 100 Lapua cases for 10 yrs now..the 100 Rem cases finally gave up...split necks & sloppy pockets..so I just put 100 new Lapua cases in in service...lets see if they go 10 yrs..the 6BR Pac-Nor barrel now has close to 7K rds out.....still under 1/2" @ 100 with three rds...yes my Lapua brass is the old 'paper box stuff'

I know what you mean about the 6BR being about the perfect 6mm for varminting. I'm shooting 32.0 grains of VV135 and 70 grain Sierra Blitzking in my 6BR with a Pac-Nor #5 with a 1-12"twist 3 groove. It was actually the first bullet and powder I tried and I am shooting groups out to 400 yards between 1.75 and 2". I love the accuracy, but I do hate that fact I had to make it into a single shot. I tried the Bryant conversion and I could never get it to feed right. It's funny you mention the old 'paper box stuff' because I am using it as well. I hope I can get the kind of mileage you are getting from your barrel.
