I priced out a new truck with similar options and it rang in at 55k.

I'm planning on trading my SUV that gets 13mpg for a F-250 diesel later this year.

My buddy put 615K miles on his 7.3 and it is now retired to ranch duty only. It never had any repair work needed - not even tranny. Great engine.
I only have 310K on my '04 Cummins.
I am pulling for Ford to have a winner in the new 6.7.

Oh yeah, recommendations, get a turnover ball. Uncle and bro in law both have B&W's. So much nicer than the channel iron the ball is mounted on in my bed, makes hauling sheetrock and concrete board difficult. +1 on the turnover, had one in my '06 and it's completely out of the way until you need it. Grease the snot out of the draw-ball and it's retainer pin is my only advice. The ball was seized in place when I bought my '06 and it took some doing to get it out. A thick coat of honest to goodness grease made everything very easy the rest of the time I owned it. I have a rubber mat bedliner and you'd never know the turnover ball is there unless you roll it up and look. B&W makes a 5th wheel plate attachment that'll drop right into the turnover ball hole as well if you're pulling a travel trailer. I like Ford's 6" SS running boards. I have an '11 F-250/6.7L and opted for the 5" boards, I regret not getting the 6" after riding with a pard who has them. I bought mine the end of March '12 and have just short of 8K mi on it. It's been in the shop for 1 oil change at which time they also did the DEF/DPF re-flash and rotated the tires. Other than that, fill it with fuel and go. So far my ONLY complaint about my truck is that I bought the short box and it's only got a 25gal fuel tank. Everything else is superior to my '06. It's got WAY more power and that power comes on exponentially quicker from a dead stop, it's quieter, get's better fuel mileage (1-2MPG empty or towing), rides better, turns shorter, and the seats are better IMO.

Bought mine 4-5 months ago...been averaging 18+ running around the mountains. Got 25+ on the stretch of 70 across KS. No issues at all. Mine came with the SS running boards. First thing I did was put in a rhino liner...next will be a grill guard...or deer deflector as I call them.

In Feb of 2011 mine was listed for ~62K. I got it for ~49K. I has most everything except the fifth wheel package.

hearing what the sticker prices are these days, I guess my old '01 7.3 is going to have to be totalled in a crash before I even think about looking at new. WOW...$55,000 for a truck..

My two cents, I have a 2006 F-350 108,000 miles can't get near the mileage you guys are, are you using after market mods or anything. I did run an oil additive thru it and it cured the cold engine idle and shifting. The best mileage I have ever gotten is 16-17. Thanks

I walked around the lot checking out trucks.. One there had an MSRP of over $64,000!!! I did the same at the nearest Ford dealership a couple of months ago and the cheapest one on the lot was a little over $51K, and it was pretty bare bones. I have an '02 Excursion Ultimate with the 7.3PSD, which is built on the F250 frame. I don't have 100K miles on it yet, and it runs and looks like new. I've been offered nearly $20K for it on several occasions this year alone. I have no intention on parting with it, especially given the price of the new ones.

Thanks My experience with my '06 6.0L was the same bone stock, I bought it @ 32K and sold it @ 83K. I don't get in the 20's with my 6.7L either. Speed limit on the interstate here is 75 and secondary roads are 65 or 70 though. @ 60ish I suspect low 20's are possible. FWIW, mine was an '11 holdover and I purchased in the last few days of Q-1 '12. It's an XLT, 4WD, cloth, Sync, fixed rear window, driver's is the only power seat, no upfitter switches, power fold/extend mirrors, 18" AL wheels, 3:31 ELD rear end, dual alternators and rapid heat. $39K and change out the door. Stickered just under $51K.

cruise control @ 75-80 got me 25...no curves or hills though. How far was the trip? Wind conditions? Bone stock? I read about guys getting that kind of mileage but I've never spoken to one in person or ridden with one. I ran 150mi to a pard's hunting cabin last weekend with the cruise set @ 78mph for 90mi and @ 61mph for 60mi. I had 3 slow downs for construction, 1 off ramp, and 3 towns I slowed for. Flat calm, running A/C the whole way. 17.3MPG for that 150mi. I did have my ATV in the bed, the handlebars are all that stick up over the top of the truck (no windscreen on the wheeler). 1 re-gen cycle on the trip. No hills, the flattest flat ground in the US save the salt flats. The 3 hills on the trip are where 2 other highways and a railroad track pass under the interstate. Red River Valley in ND/MN.

Lariat FX4 2012 stock besides the bedliner. I was hauling nothing on I-70 across KS...several hundred miles with no traffic or construction that I recall. I did the reset after I filled up in Limon. Wind was at our back the whole way...so that helped a bit I am sure.
I got 22 between Bailey CO and Santa fe...with plenty of hills and curves though.

All the turbo pipes, air filter, intercooler, etc look Ford OEM. I am far from a gearhead though and could be missing something.

2wd or 4wd? 3:31 or 3:55 rear? How many miles on your truck? Running any additive?
Sorry for the 20 questions game, just wondering if I'm doing something wrong as I don't see anywhere near that mileage and the bulk of my driving is from 900'-2000' and mostly pancake flat.

I'd love to have a new one just for the mileage you guys are getting, even though I have seen 20mpg with my 7.3 on a few occasions. The new ones certainly are very quiet too- I had to do tank mods, regulated return, fuel crossover etc. to get my 7.3 to the point of not having to shut it off at a drive thru. I got in the habit of turning it off at Canadian Customs before they asked (which they always would)

Never seen above 21 mpg in my 7.3 and that was a long time ago, before the diesel change to low sulfur, mpg went down from there.

I've never experienced a loss in mpg from low sulphur- in fact both the TDI and Excursion would get better mpg on Canadian diesel than they would on USA brew prior to the USA going that route too. My mileage drops always came from summer to winter blend switchover, which I'm sure the newer models see as well.
