I am willing to give it a try. Less than stellar sleep is better then NO sleep, methinks.

I just took one for the second night in a row which I HATE to do and I do NOT like the effects of Ambien but am at a loss for other remedies.

To add sleepiness all day to my PKD caused joint and muscle pain makes me a pretty worthless hunk all day long and I am not wanting to give in to a life of a sedentary zombie like existence.

anyone else out in campfire land dealing with chronic sleeplessness? Have some remedies that help you?

Thanks in advance.
Try your best not to use the Ambien. It's addictive.

Keep your house cooler than usual at night. Let the TV stay on all night, or set the timer for it to turn off in two hours or more, with just enough volume so you can hear it without struggling. Commit yourself to not falling asleep while the TV is on, and keep it on something that's mildly interesting. During the commercials, take off your glasses, close your eyes, but commit yourself to not falling asleep so you can be sure not to miss what's on the other side. Do this during every commercial. Next thing you know, it will be morning, and you will have missed all that good TV you meant to stay up for. Good luck.

I find just the opposite. A beer or two is relaxing, and I go right off to sleep. Any more causes me to be up half the night pizzing. laugh

Alcohol has the same effect on me. Any more than a couple good belts and I don't get REM sleep. They key, at least for me, is light to moderate consumption.

Also, don't eat much anywhere near bedtime. Small snacks are OK, but nothing close to a meal sized snack. Stop eating entirely two hours before bed would be ideal.

Melatonin use to work great for me, but I woke up hungover, now it doesn't seem to do anything. But a dose of liquid benadryl and a beer or 2, an hour later I'm out like a light. And I don't feel hungover in the morning.

Nyquil now has a sleep medicine minus all the decongestants, etc. that might be an option. Regular Nyquil knocks me cold, but I didn't like all the other stuff in it.

Not sure what you mean by Jimmy legs, but I'm assuming jitters or twitching. No, not yet anyways. Generic benadryl is cheap too.

Nyquil works too, I forgot about that one.

^^^ That sounds good.

At times, I've had bouts with insomnia and antihistamines work for me. The sleepy kind that's found in Nyquil is the stuff.

The other thing that helps is a warm glass of milk.

I absolutely hate the morning drowsy side affects with sleeping pills and would rather stay awake than deal with that.
