tomorrow i'm taking it to my storage. i cleared out a bunch of junk to have room to work on it. decided to do the paint and body myself and take the 7000 that was going to cost me and put it into building a 540ci hemi instead of a wedge motor.

Polara......that name brings back memories. My high school buddy's dad owned a bowling alley across the street from the Dodge,Plymouth and Chrysler dealership. His dad and mom did very well......i recall a Coronet,a Satellite,a Polara and a bright red Barracuda which had the push button tranny. Since Dane and i hunted and fished every minute while not at school, the Baracuda got a lot of use. Fold down the rear seat and our fishing poles,shotguns,22 rifles and sleeping bags filled the space. That little red car was always covered in mud, dust and had weeds jammed everywhere underneath. Later they had a Monaco and a 300.......maybe a New Yorker. All had 440's i believe except the Monaco (383) and the Barracuda (273). His dad sold the Barracuda and got a Toyota Land Cruiser......4 banger? that started my hearing loss.....top speed was 45 and the engine was screaming.....3 speed.
growing up our family car was a 64 polara, my dad said it was an automatic, so I thought it could drive itself. We also had a 62 scout that had a camper body with tent trailer type foldout beds on the sides... 100 made and we had one of the two in Az... wish I had both now.
their hard to come by. took me 5yrs to find one worth rebuilding.

had a 67 Polara red with white top, bought in '78 for $350 it had 35K miles on it, the proverbial little old lady that went to church with my grandparents.
dang that was a suhhweet car, totaled it in front of the Cook County Courthouse in Chicago, hit a guy head on driving a 78 Grand Prix, that was some major suckage. Oh how youth and good old cars are wasted upon the young.
really lookin forward to your project Roger. Worthwhile endeavor indeed!
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
A friend of mine has a Coronet 440, but I'm not sure what year it is. The 440, in this case is a trim package, not the motor size. The car came from the factory with a 426 Hemi. The previous owner tubbed the rear and ran the car on the strip. The exterior and interior are in mint condition, except for the tubs.
The same guy also has a SuperBird w/ a 383, but it need a lot of interior and exterior work.

A little off topic but when did Chrysler start using those starters that had that distnctive whine?
I haven't heard one in decades........that's a sound of the muscle car era.
they whined but they usually always would hit
the ole lady might flood the Holley, but the starter always cranked
now the old GM starters, phuggers would get "heat soaked" spent a few 45minute cool-off sessions in parking lots with dad's Corvette. The rule was never shut the somebitch off, lol except in the garage
My folks had a '73 dodge polara w/ 318. I think it was the best riding and smoothest handling car I ever drove. After that they got a Cordoba and it was a rocket on wheels. I was grown and gone when they had these cars, so I didnt drive them much, but that cordoba would fly!

in 1962 Chrysler design broke new ground by developing the first starter, anywhere, using a cast-aluminum housing and double gear reduction. The armature spun at much higher RPM than the norm; this feature, combined with the extra helical gearset, served to create the now-famous waaa-waaa-waaa sound that told you, from a block away, it was a Mopar cranking. I think they used these up till about 1985, and they were on everything from a 170 cid slant six to the big block 440's.

didn't get over to my storage room, couldn't use the car trailer today. i did pull the fenders.
no rust on either door pillar.
this rust spot on the passenger fender and a spot in the trunk floor are the worst spots on the car.
