Just downloaded the PDF of Rifle Magazine's 2012 Special Edition on 7mm cartridges and it has not one, not two, not merely even three, but a whopping 4 articles on the 7x57 and a fifth article on the 7x57's contemporaries. There's even a mention of the Mashburn here and there, and a de-bunking of the WDM Bell "two thousand elephants with the 7x57" myth. Great reads all.

Seems appropriate to celebrate the 120th anniversary.

Is the Special Edition being sent out to Rifle/ Handloader subscribers? If so, I'm looking forward to it hitting the mailbox!

I guess this gives a good excuse to buy the custom Mauser 93 that I have looking at for the past couple of months.

Went back and looked at the Mauser 93 today, turns out it is
chambered in 8x57mm, not 7x57mm. I have never heard of a Mauser
93/95 in 8x57mm, have any of you guys?

Have seen a few with 98 barrels fitted to them by turning down and rethreading the tenon, but none originally barreled up in 8X57.

Couple of guys up here have hunted with them for quite a few years. They are actually quite nice little handy rifles, and certainly not lacking much for big game. You might still want to consider getting it. Any excuse to buy another rifle, eh? smile

I no longer own one, but 185 gr bullets at 2600 fps just plain work. So do 150s at 2800.

Not a twist, just a nudge. smile

7 STW,

About the only American factory 7x57 that occurs to me right now is the Ruger No. 1 International, but Ruger has made a bunch of 7x57's (both bolt and single-shot) in the past that can frequently be found on the used market. Good European rifles can also frequently be found, both new and used.
