I have a winchester model 70 westerner. I need to totally remove the front sight and rail from the barrel. I removed the front post dove tail and there is no screw below it. How do I remove the rail from the barrel???

Probably soldered on, you may be able to see the thin line of solder between the ramp and barrel. Judicious use of just enough heat if so. How bad does it need to come off?

Badly!!...The problem has been the front ramp in certain lighting situations causes a refection flash back through the scope because of the mounting height I prefer(fairly close to the barrel). The flash cost me a monster b/c buck last year right before he hoped a fence and a few other close calls. So its gotta go because I'm not touching the mounting job on my scope. I have it driving tacks at 300yds with only 3 to 4 clicks off reticle dead center by using Burris Signature Rings and their Pos-Align Offset Inserts. I drag it through the mud, its beat up and dinged all over and still clover leafs 1 1/2" high at 100yds. It's ugly but I love it to death.

Why not cut grooves in the ramp with a checkering file and eliminate the glare but keep the ramp?
