I like the FX3 6x42, Conquest 3-9x40 and 3.5-10x44, and I really like the S&B Summit I had were it not for my 51 yr old eyes and a super thin reticle which just didn' work that great for me. My favorite scope I've ever used though, even though I've only had it several months, is the VX6 2-12x42. I also really like the VX3 3-10x40 CDS as well.

Yes, bsa, like that one. Mine is also one of the 2008 LE's. The walnut was too good for me to pass up. I sure do like the look of those dual dovetails... I like them too. I figured you would too since that's what your first post was suggesting . Sometimes the talleys just don't cut it . This is a 300 wsm (short action) and the talley lightweights just didn't look right so I put the Leupold DD's (lows) back on
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Leupold 2-7x, the all purpose short action scope.
I've got dozens of 'em, from pre-prefix 2-7x28s to VX-IIs 2-7x33s. All work all the time. Not too big, not too small, just right for most of my needs.

My favorite scope I've ever used though, even though I've only had it several months, is the VX6 2-12x42. I also really like the VX3 3-10x40 CDS as well. Got'em both. I haven't had my VX-6 2-12x42 long enough to hunt with it. It sure seems like a fine scope with great glass. I have a VX-3 3.5-10x40 CDS on my primitive weapon for whitetails, a BPCR in .45-70. The CDS is set up for the Barnes 250 TSX FP and I use their 2,550 fps Vv 120 load. Great 300 yd. primitive weapon that's not so primitive. Best 300 yd. group so far, 4 1/2". DF

One of my favorite low light scopes is a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 with the Firefly reticle. I don't use the illumination feature much but I just love the super bold posts for low light, but still has just enough thin wires in between for precision aiming in good light. If you haven't looked thru one you should check it out in person.

Tough question. I like my 1.75-5 Burris Signature Safari with illuminated reticle on my .375 BUT Swarovski almost sent me to divorce court with it's 1-6x, Stunning and amazing!
I'd like to try a Gunwerk's customized Nightforce out on my .300 Win Mag.

WYcoyote,
My Bushnell 4200 4-15X40 matches my Swarovski z5 5-25X52 in low light up to 16X. It is a fantastic scope for those who purchase scopes to use instead of brag.

I may be a dinosaur but my favorite hunting scope is my Weaver K3 with a post and crosshair reticle atop my 35 Whelen. Just got a Unertl 2.5x Falcon today with a PCH reticle that I'm anxious to try.

JeffO, I've only got 200 or so rounds through the VX6 on a 7mag, so time will tell how well it holds up. It seems very well built though.

And I will do, too. cmg, hasn't anyone told you about German scopes??? Vastly superior, I tell ya. And you're 1X shy of the proper magnification. A 4x32 Conquest matches by backwards ways, (and backwards choices in cartridges) just perfectly. I only have 3 of them, darnit. FC

You steered me towards those all those years ago <g> and it was good steerin'. I don't deliberately steer anyone wrong. Yep, been a fair bit o' water under the bridge since those days, huh? I really love them on short action rifles. With my unusual preference for head position, eye relief is at a premium, and the 2.5-8's shorten up a bit too much for my taste at full power. Anyway, the 3-9x40 Conquest really rocks my world on long action rifles. I'll give ya that. On a long action, there's zero flexibility for mounting location front to back. A full size Leupold 3-9X or 3.5-10X fits a long action a little better. On a long 700, sometimes I'll use a reversible front base with the small scope since I don't like extension rings. Tom
