"The Good, The Bad and the Ugly", hands down, for the story, the cool characters, classic lines and Ennio Morricone's classic sountrack. Saw it something like 16 times in the first few years it was out. Even had the soundtrack on LP.
"Million Dollar Baby" would get second place for its really good story - had to watch it twice to pick up all the nuances.

It depends on which era of Eastwood films.

And Lee Marvin was terrific. You're welcome.  Actually, one of my favorites starring Eastwood was Joe Kidd, written by Elmore Leonard, a very good novelist and screenwriter. The original title was Sinola, the name of the town where the action took place. But when the flick was released, Universal Pictures changed the title to the name of the main character, "Joe Kidd," played by Eastwood. A great supporting actor in the flick was Robert Duvall, who played the main heavy in the movie. L.W.

Hotload: I have enjoyed virtually EVERY Clint Eastwood movie - for a couple of reasons: #1 is, he literally saved my life when I was a youngster and #2 he is a great actor and has a great screen presence.
Let me explain the life saving situation.
When I was 6 or 7 years old my slightly older friends dared me to jump off of the high board at the local swim place.
Well I finally was chided enough to take the plunge and sure enough I took in a ton of water and began drowning and was unable to get to safety.
Who swims up and yanks me from the water but Clinton Eastwood Jr.!
He also gave me a lecture and forbade me from jumping off either diving board (the low or the high) until I was able to swim 3 laps of the pool without stopping.
I always said hello to him when he was the on duty lifeguard at that swimming place after that - it also never failed that a young woman or two would be swooning around him that summer.
If I had to pick a favorite movie of his I would have to go with "Unforgiven".
But for pure emotional impact I was "touched" by the original Dirty Harry.
In fact I was asked to leave the theatre by the manager just after I answered out loud Dirty Harry's question "Do you feel lucky punk" with an unprofessional and very inappropriate for a mixed race audience - "SHOOT THAT N----R"!
I also very much enjoyed and was very surprised by Gran Torino.
Long live Clint Eastwood.

Hotload: I went to wikipedia and looked over the complete list of Clint Eastwood movies and I was shocked at how many movies he made and how many I have not seen (as yet!)!
I am with you I can't remember one of his movies that i dis-liked.
I even was entertained by his "orangutan" movies.

Not really his best movie, but if you've ever been to Alcatraz and than re-watch Clints movie it'll give you some new appreciation for the actual events.

Josey Wales is excellent - got to love the "Missouri Boat Ride". All the oldies are great - Hang 'em High, Good Bad & Ugly is probably the crown jewel. Newer stuff is good also - Gran Torino is a great movie. He's had a great run, that is for sure.

Unforgiven is one of the best "Westerns" ever, but his role and the story in "Hang 'Em High" is one of the best written and most realistic westerns ever. The last scene in the movie when he rode out of town in search of the last villains, let me believe there was going to be another western around the "Cooper" character. I am still waiting...

Josey Wales has stood the test of time really well. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly broke some new ground. I liked the story of Hang 'Em High. Some of Clint's movies have too much grunting and spitting.
I really like to watch reruns of "Rawhide." His character has many more levels than any of his movies.
The only cure for life and death is to enjoy the interval.

Watching "Where Eagles Dare" co-starring Richard Burton is a good way to spend an afternoon. Takes Clint a while to get warmed up in that one, but for pure body count nothing else he made touches it.
"Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" is another I haven't seen mentioned.

I let the boys, 6 and 9, watch the Trilogy over a long winter weekend and they are still runnin around mock shooting each other. I refer them as the "Eastwoods" when they have been after it!
They also liked "Two Mules for Sister Sara"..another one I didn't see mentioned.
I'll sit thru any CE film, even the gooey ones..

I am shocked, shocked I say!
I had to double check what site I was reading this on... but yes, I am here on the 'Fire and nobody has yet posted The Bridges of Madison County!
John When the book came out, the general reaction amongst the women of Iowa was pretty much, "Hey, it might be borderline pornography, but it's OUR pornography."

The spaghetti westerns all kind of blend together for me, but one of them has the best line in any movie, ever (and I paraphrase):

I think it could be "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".

Josey Wales is definitely my favorite, and I also really liked the Unforgiven. It has a good tie in with the story of Josey Wales.
