It looks like both areas I hunt are "Managed". Good deal.

Applied for late season hunting. My brother applied for late season trapping. Last year there were a couple of wolves eyeballing my brother's hunting dog about 50 yards from the cabin. Could see them from the kitchen window over the sink.

I figure late trapping is my best possible chance. I've never seen a wolf while I'm hunting deer, I suppose there can always be a first. It was a bit of a tossup for me, late hunt or late trap because I also considered trying to call for for them, but I haven't read the rules yet so I'm not sure if you can use electronic calls, decoys or any of that. I'll try to study up on the rules today.

I wanted to do the late season woof hunting thing, but I dont really have a place to go that has woofies, so I am gonna sit this year out. I really hope you guys get tags as I would love to read about your adventures.

Our deer area went to Hunters Choice...1 deer of either sex. That has me scratching my noodle a little as deer populations throughout the zone are fine. They must know something I dont know.

I did see 4 deer this morning on my run and we have got a flock of 10 turkeys that live around us. The kids love seeing that wildlife. Roosters are looking good in the area and on our land in particular. Been seeing quite a few on our trips out there.

37 days until the Elk Hunting Express leaves town. ND are you able to go this year?

I saw a nice doe this morning on my way in this morning too. She look nice and healthy, winter hair had more than started to come in.

Leaves are starting to change and I'm getting excited!

EHD reared it's head in the last couple days, found 5 deer today, one really nice buck. hope it doesn't last long. shame to see healthy deer just laying dead.

Jeeze Ryan, sorry to see that!

Are they all on your farm? Is that they guy you were seeking out for bow season?

Is it usually accelerated by drought?

from the reports I've heard it's all over unfortunately.

this isn't the big ten I've seen, we have several that are in this age/size class.

drought really amps up the disease because it concentrates the deer more as water holes dry up, many of them could be stagnant which is where the midge that transmits the disease live/reproduce.

midge bites an infected deer, then bites 2 or 3 others before it lays its eggs. usually kills the deer within a few days, some do survive and can become immune to it, most just tip over and die even though they appear fairly healthy otherwise. it's not a pleasant death to say the least.

I think half of those people were at Gander Mt. tonight.

I went there with my daughter to check out a bow for her. The line was nuts. I'd rather not shoot a deer than wait in that license line.

they need to have an unlimited license with a quota. once the quota is reached the season is closed. it's up to the individual to check the status of the season at the start of each day and an email or text notification is sent out with reports of numbers harvested and season closure. that's how they run the lion hunt out here. the day the last lion is registered the season closes at midnight. sure on occasion an extra one or two are killed on the same day, but to hit a target number within 2 or 3 is pretty specific, and hard to do

Did you get yours TOm? I will call you today too. busy night last night in the kids sports world. we can only get one deer this year too in our zone. used to be able to hunt different seasons and still get a deer in each season, not this year. only one deer for all seasons.

Guys has EHD always been around? It seems to be getting worse and worse each year...I have been hunting since 1994 and never heard of it until a few years ago. Also where did this originate from?
