well if the deer stop dying that would be a big clue because that's what the objective is. the disease won't stop or go away on it's own, not until first frost anyway.

regardless, doing a good job where I work is like peeing yourself in a pair of black pants. it gives you a warm feeling but no one notices.

I'm not. Wolves aren't going to be easy to hunt and I think people know that. What will surpirse me is if the goal is actually reached.

I think the majority of the folks that applied for a tag did it just to do it. I actually want to shoot a wolf. That is a great trophy IMO.

That's why I applied for trapping, I'd love to shoot a wolf too but I think it's unlikely I will get an opportunity. I think a snare is my best chance.

But I still need to read the rules to see what is allowed.

let me know if you need some big leghold traps, I have several with drags and everything. I think they are number 4's?

Any chance the Woofs could catch something similar? I wouldn't want it to spread up north into Canadia or AK, but it'd surely help around these parts, and couldn't be vetoed by the Huggers.

Mange can take out a wolf.

Floor refinishers were here Wed - Thur. Found out our floors were made out of Black Ash, Hickery and Maple. Realy looks great.

Carpet people will be here a week from Monday to install the slate tile and carpet in the rest of the house.

Bear season opened this past Wednesday and it sounds like some good bears have been taken.

Doesn't mange usually crop up with over-population? If so, starvation will probably kill them first......

The temp is 35 degrees and dropping this morning as the sun comes up over northern MN.

Don't know about the relationship between mange and over population. The pack near our camp was hit by it about 10 years ago.

Upper 40's here this AM. We managed to pick up 1/2 inch of much needed rain Saturday. WI bow season opens the 15th.

All diseases that are contagious, "crop up" when populations become large (or dense). Mange, plague, blue-tongue, white-nose fungus, CWD, etc. all have dynamics that are dependent on the densities of their hosts.

Anything that acts to concentrate animals - like water in a drought, or feeders, etc, act to increase the prevalence of contagious diseases has the effect of increasing densities, and hence disease transmission.

It's all part of the mathematics. And part of that mathematics is that it is very very unlikely that a disease that specializes on one or a very few species will be able to drive that species to extinction.

I would like some 40's. No rain here. It's supposed to be in the high 70's today, upper 80's Monday and Tuesday, then cool off. We need rain...bad.

99 they are calling for tomorrow, then cooling into the 70's towards the end of the week. SOB I'm tired of this damn hot weather!

low 50's on the Harley this morning, expecting mid to upper 80's and strong south wind today.

We checked trail cameras on a quick trip to camp yesterday, nothing exciting to report, does and fawns. Dusty's camera certainly takes the nicest pictures of the 3 cameras we have out right now.
