Ok Jeff ... story time. Spill it.

YES, Chuckar season. I'm VERY well aware that buck season is in full swing.

Cool! I asked 'cause, well last week one of the guys I work with was giving me a bunch of crap about bein' a puzzy 'cause I wasn't hunting opening weekend. (My buck tag starts Nov 10 ... "whatever.") I laughed him off but it did irk me a bit. This morning I went in to ask how he'd done. He turned bright red. I guess after giving me grief, he forgot to go buy his tag. He's not huntin' at all this year. What a dumb ass. There's something poetic in that.

Did you get a buck tag? Doing any good? Seeing anything?

We've got deer here in town, otherwise, its so dry they're clear at the mountain tops where some of the small springs have water, but the middle elevations seem deer-free. I saw one little doe yesterday when I was hiking. Got me curious where she was getting water. That led me to finding a lake off-trail I wasn't aware of. Learn somethin' every day I guess. smile

Anyways, if you're hunting, good luck!

That reminds me of a few years ago when I dumped several preference points on a friggin' cow tag, and didn't catch the mistake until I successfully drew, and went to buy what I thought was a bull tag. Pain is a great teacher....... blush

I didn't draw, but sent you a PM. smile

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

I talked to him last night. "He seemed happy." I guess the picture of a bloody knife is hint enough. I won't spoil his story by saying more than that.

He was climbing up out of a hole when I called. There's signal up top where he was parked. I lost him on the drive back to camp, no signal down there. I didn't get a chance to ask how soon he's heading home so I don't know when we'll get a report.

My buddy got his buck yesterday evening with a .270 WSM..... maybe you are on to something! I didn't tell him his rifle was gay though.

A few more pics. My GPS said the spot I packed into was ~8600 ft and that it was a 4.3 mile stroll that started around 9500' and had 2500' of vertical. It was a non-trivial pack in.

Very pretty up in the tops of these canyons:

By the way that's a Garcia Mitchell 308, not a 300 as someone said a couple pages back. The 300 was bigger, cheaper, and had bushings. The 308 was smaller and has bearings. We had some of both in my posse but I much preferred the 308. I have no idea if it's a "good" reel but I sure love it. Bought it in circa '77 or so and it was a big purchase for a 12-yr-old! We'd scrimp and save for Panther Martins then risk life and limb in those southern Rockies rivers to get them back from the Snag Demons.... had our priorities right, I'd say! smile
