I'm looking at buying a Ruger 77 Hawkeye. I've had a few Ruger rifles. They have all been good shooters but the newest one was an mid-90s model so it doesn't really relate to current production.

What kind of accuracy do you get from your personal Ruger Hawkeye rifles or those of friends whose rifle you have shot?

I've had a pile of these rifles and loved every one but not for their oustanding accuracy as all were average shooters except one (223 77 Ultra-light) it was a "tack driver" if I ever saw one. I love Ruger rifles for their rugged bullet proof reliability and I like the way they handle not to mention Ruger's bomb proof scope mounting system, you gotta love that...........Hb

The SS laminate 30-06 I used to have was capable of 3/4" groups at 100 yards after free flaoting the barrel, wish I still had it. The SS laminate 375 Ruger I have now can easily group under 3/4" sometimes much less when yours truly holds it right. Great guns for the money in my opinion, you hear of the odd one that doesn't shoot but most seem to be quite good.

Hey Heath, mine (SS/walnut 308 Hawkeye) went to a sniper coming home from afghanistan.....He'll be stationed at Fort Bragg, he will be pleasantly surprised when he shoots that rifle grin....His father in law bought it for him as a birthday gift. I'm pretty stoked about it grin...

While I wouldn't use my 358 Win Hawkeye for competitive shooting I wouldn't hesitate to use it for hunting large game under 300 yards. It's a keeper for sure.

I've got a SS Hawkeye in .243. It'll consistantly shoot .6" groups with my 85 TSX load. I'm hoping to buy another one in .204 ruger.

MOS, I stole it. grin

Notice shot placement? Very important when shooting squirrels with a 30 caliber, do not want to be charged by a injured one.

...........My two shoot just fine for me.

One is a late 2006 300 WSM Ruger Frontier MK2 compact, which new from the box in the beginning gave good solid 1.5" groups with factory ammo. A little later I swapped out the trigger and several months ago added a bed and free float job. Using my better reloads, the groups are even tighter now at under an inch with some 3 shot groupings doing some hole overlappin.

Second is a 375 Ruger Alaskan which new from its box needed absolutely nothing.

About 2 MOA on a good day. I hated to sell it.

308 All Weather Hawkeye. Wouldn't call it a tack driver in my hands, but it has no problem killing stuff.

Have two, both left handed, a .308 SS Hawkeye and a SS Hawkeye .25-06, both purchased within the last five months.

They shot okay out of the box - around an inch and a quarter to inch and a half groups - but after glass bedding and free floating both are definitely good shooters. 3 shot groups will go under 3/4", often staying in the .5's and .6's. I like to shoot five without letting the barrel cool but they still stay sub-MOA.

I'd get another in a heartbeat, in fact I plan to get a LH .243 whenever they make the next batch of'em.

The 30-06 Hawkeye I have will shoot sub-MOA.
But, it's been bedded and has a trigger job.
I just don't like Rugers matte finish.

That's cool! That was a good looking rifle and I saw the groups you shot with it, he will be pleased.
