Anyway, Dad came within a gnat's eyelash of "buying the farm" on the precise day I came into this world.
Glad that didn't happen, a lot of women were widowed, children left fatherless, and young lives lost in that conflict. The Savage bio is pretty interesting. Pretty sharp guy.

Wow. Steve, thank you for taking time to write that down. Even an old hilljack like me can appreciate the deep meaning of that card. In some ways it is no more than a token. In others, it is a powerful link to a time when your loved one was whole.

A wonderful story, and a reminder that the iconic American firearms companies were once run by businessmen who were truly committed gunmakers, not the generic bean counters of today.

Steve, what a great story. I am grasping for more.... Me, too ... my dear friend. My memory is quite sharp, but there are tantalizing little details that are missing from this family legend. I find Arthur Savage's life to be totally fascinating. He surely was a one-of-a-kind man, that is for sure. God Bless You, Steve PS. I'm still PRAYING for you know what. Every day

Thank you my friend Steve.

Cool story Steve, you've got a lot like that. I hope you're not serious when you say you might burn that card...that would be a real shame to lose your Dad's story. The card, you and your Dads picture, the story, in a museum for future generations. There is a lot of inspiration there. Thanks, Dave.
