I took my new Sako to the range this weekend for the first time and I fed it my old standby loads of 76grRL22 and 70gr IMR4350, both behing Fed 215 primers. Bullets were 180gr T/TTSXz as they both tend to shoot to POI in everything I've tested and they did. Accuracy was right at 3/4-1" and velocities for both loads were in the 3080-3100 range which is where I want to be. I'm going to try my old trick of using F210 primers instead as that has worked for me in the past with loads less than 75gr and see what happens.

That said, can some of you guys suggest other loads to try? thanks!

The 180 gr Protected Point Partition under your charge of RL22 is my favorite in my 300WM.

My favorite in the 300 Win Mag is 72 gr/IMR 4350, Fed 215M, WW brass, 180 grain Nosler Partition. This load is max, but not excessive in my rifle; I get 3013 fps.

A classic load for the 300 WM is 75 gr/H4831 w/ 180 gr bullet, but I find it somewhat less accurate than the one I listed above.

I use H4831sc with 168 TTSX's win brass and Fed215m primers, never really saw a need for 180 gr Tripple shocks for any game up to elk, have also used IMR4831 with great accuracy and speed, 180's will work fine but even the 168's over penetrate when shot out of a 300WM! smile

Last year I used H4831sc with 168 TTSX in win brass to take a rag horn bull at 300+yds. He was quartering away and I hit him near the last rib and it went out the offside shoulder. He didn't go 20yds after he was hit.

Nosler / Winchester brass, Fed. GM215m primer, 180 gr. Nosler PP, Spitzer, seated to 3.385 OAL.( max for the mag box ). Max load of H-1000. Yeilds 3075-3100 fps. Obviously, very low SD and will do this at tempts of 85-23 degrees, varified over the Oheler 35. Groups .4"-.7" @ 100 yds. depending on what kind of day I am having ! Holds 1" @ 200 yds. Three shot groups.
Nosler brass, 215m, max load of H-1000, 168 TSX, 3180 fps. same as above.

73g-74g of H4831 is a good one to try, but it usually falls behind R22 on MVs. 7828 aint bad either.

A load one of my 300wm likes is 180gr nosler Etip 80gr H1000. It also likes 220gr hornady round nose with IMR7828SSC

75.5 grains of r-22 pushing a 180gr nosler partition and 76.0 grains of r-22 pushing a 180 grain sierra pro hunter. Clover leafs out of the second one. I get 3/4-1" groups out of the partitions. I use winchester mag primers with both loads.

Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money but we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What's interesting is the first group WORKED for their money but the other group didn't.

Years past I used a lot of IMR4831 and RL22 in the 300 Win Mag with not much to complain about.

But if starting over with the cartridge today I would work with H1000...it has proven to be such a good and consistent powder in the 7mm Mashburn for me that I would give it first crack to try.

My best 180 load is
180 TSX
76 H4831SC
Win cases and 215 primers
3070 fps from 26" bbl

My favorite is
200 NP
75 R22 or N560
A little over 2900 fps
N560 is slightly more accurate but not enough to matter.

Looks like the 76gr of H-4831 is the keeper men. Shot to POI under 1" with T/TSXs and Hornady Interlocks. I did however use 210s instead of 215s as I generally don't see a need for magnum powders if I'm running under 80gr of powder. Any of you guys know if there is any difference between H-4831 and the SC version?

I see you sneaking around looking for help in the Arms Race!

H4831 and the SC have proven to be interchangable in my loads. Treat them as if they were same powder, just different lots. Sneak up on your previous max load.

SC sure meters a whole lot easier than the standard. I like the stuff. Use 110 grains + 2 grains of poly filler in my .450 #2. Boom!

Jorge, I used 210's int he 300 win mag too, but noticed that with some loads the velocity became erratic in colder temps. Something to think about if you ever intend to hunt in the north.
