Jack, I never flew any of the old warbirds from the Great War, but given the chance the -38 would be first on the list. Nothing wrong with fast or having a nose packed with Ma Deuces.
Think you're referring to the Cessna Skymaster aka Suck 'n Blow. The Air Force used them in Nam for forward air control. Having saved me a lot of grief by artfully arranging total annihilation of the yellow hoards more than a few times I can't say anything bad about 'em. Too busy back in the day flying planes with both or more engines pointing in the right direction to take a S&B around the pattern.
I prefer walking these days.
