I called Effie Sullivan at Savage and had a 22-250 built with a 26" sporter contour in 1:9 twist and the Law enforcement Accu Trigger put on it. Not a real light weight but I got every thing I wanted in a walking varmint rifle.

bcraig, for frame of reference, I am an old phart, semi frugal, like to have nice stuff, but want to slip into things carefully. Now that where I am coming from is established, why not shoot the CZ this season and see what changes you require. More cartridge, more scope, more or less weight, or darn, it might even be good! The CZ @ 1:12 should handle bullets about like the velocity of the 1:14 Tika. If the CZ is good, you can plot and scheme on another project. If not, you can start where you are and build on that experience. jack

Thanks Jack,You know upon further investigation I see that the 22-250 will only better the 223 by 50+ yards with Factory Loads. what the velocity of the of the 223 is at say 200 yds the 22-250 is at say 250-275 or so.
But I do already have the 527 Carbine BUT the 22-250 is faster and .....BUT money is tight and... decisions,decisions !
Think the CZ 527 carbine 18 inch barrel and the Federal Premium factory load with Nosler partitions would work at 200 yards ? Assuming of course that I do mine.

I went with a custom based on a Stiller TAC 30 action, a Douglas 8T mountain Rifle contour barrel cut at 21", Jewel trigger, and McMillan Hunter's Edge - all done up by Mickey Coleman. But I bought it second-hand and let the 1st owner take the hit for depreciation. Somehow he ordered it through a friend and it was supposed to come out as a 22-250AI with a 23" barrel. His loss was definitely my gain!

Sometimes I wish it was a 223AI. Can't go wrong with either and the 223 ain't no slouch, either. My choice would ba a Tikka 8T......just cause I had one once.

I got a new 22-250 on the way. I couldn't help myself as I've been talking about it here all summer that I was shopping for one. Barrel has a 1/14" twist, which is fine, as I'll be shooting 40gr BTs this winter at coyotes until I can pick up a new tube for it later on. I can't wait until it shows up and I can scope it and have it out in the field. Lots of coyotes around here now.

Just took its paper scope off and put its "Big Bore" 3x Deer scope on today and got it ready. 3 notches up and it was making an 8 inch gong ping at 300.

Winchester Featherweight is what I'd be getting.

I dont think that would be as light as I would want.

You wouldn't go wrong with the Tikka T3 in 223 8" twist. That'll shoot everything accurately from the factory.

My father in law has a .223 in one of those and absolutely loves it. Uses it all the time for varmints and it's a tack driver.

I wish Winchester made a .223 in a FW with the 8" twist...But they do make a 22-250 so that would be my choice.

I just finished up a faux TI in 22/250. 22" stainless Shilen 9" twist bbl with Talley LWs and a VXII 2x7.

Paul why'd you go 9T? any reason in particular?

A .224 cal is never my first choice in a deer riffle, despite having killed deer and one pronghorn in the Swooft or .223 ..... My only (one) BG to getaway was a pronghorn I hit with the .220Swift .

The T3 sounds awfully nice for what you're contemplating.

Altho I'm partial to Remington's. A custom barreled M7 sounds nice too.

For reloading, top bullets I'd consider include the 60grn Nosler PT and WW 64 grainer. I've killed deer with the Speer 70 grainer - actually designed FOR the Swooft and .22250! No dount someone from the Barne's-crowd will laud the TSX, altho I have yet to shoot my first-ever TSX in anything!

The WW-64, Nosler PT or Speer 70 grainer? I'd try them all and either go with the best grouping bullet, or most economical (WW64 most likely), or deepest penetrating w/o coming completly apart I'd expect might be the Nosler.

The 70grn Speer proceeded all of them! And worked extremely well when i used it.

I'd also keep my barrel 22in or maybe as long as 24.

What kind of stock do you prefer?

Not planning on shooting extra heavies.

I've shot those 70 Speers in 14" 22/250s with good results. Usually group around 1" - 1.5", or better.

Deer hate them!

Dont know what happened to that pic, but Ive killed a number of deer and one warthog with the Model Seven...the Winchester will hopefully get its maidenhead broken this fall....
