The feds have turned the entire wolf control program over to the state...except the part that counts. Idaho now can manage the wolves and kill the ones that are killing livestock. The problem is that they're still listed as endangered by the ESA. The anti's are screaming that they shouldn't be delisted because it would slow the reintroduction plan. However, the plan called for 15 packs which is 100 to 150 wolves. We now have well over 500 and they're still listed. They should have been delisted when they hit 200 but the anti's have no intention of letting that happen. Two were poached last year about 50 miles from here...which is 300 miles from they're supposed to be. The promise of wolves in the backcountry was a huge lie by the feds and they knew it when they said it.
Hunters are reporting seeing large herds of elk with almost no calves. In a couple of years, the herds are going to plummet with no replacement stock.

Oregon's getting a "reintroduction" to wolves, and they aren't native to the state! I won't take long and we'll be in the same shape that Idaho's in. Between the eco-nazis and the panty-wearing feds who cater to them, almost any state's ecology is up for destruction. Blood pressure's rising..........I'm gone.

Are they planting them there or are you getting some of ours that swim the river? I'll be glad to provide swim fins for any that you'd like to have.

Keep your swim fins, please!

However, it might be a grand time to get Shaman to do a pro-parvo dance. See:

That's what the anti's want. If they can, they will fight so the cougar and wolves cull down our big game herds so hunters are no longer needed.

For now, I think they're just letting them swim (or walk in the winter). Several years ago some idiot shot a moose that swam across because the game regs didn't say he COULDN'T. Now we get wolves, and they're Johnny on the spot in making sure nobody drops them.

Naturally, I'm not condoning such behavior, but I have a feeling that many wolves may just quietly disappear----------kinda the antithesis of how they showed up.

The so-called "red wolves" planted in NC contracted a lot of lead poisoning.

The Parvo dance has potential for sure. I wonder if it would put Wile E. at risk also?

I think the three "S's" are the most likely............just a guess.

Personally, I think IDFG should take a page out of there elk depredation regs. They should just institute a game reg where any wolf within one mile of private, actively grazed land is fair game. It would solve a lot of problems and make a lot of people happy.

As far as the parvo, the coyote hunters around here are complaining that Wiley has just about dissappeared. We've spent several days this Fall calling without seeing any. I would not doubt that the Montana Parvo troubles have spread to this part of the world.

Such horror..... JMO, Dutch.

I've seen more coyotes and jackrabbits this year in so. central ID than I've seen in years. The numbers sure aren't down here.

I DO NOT want to see the parvo spread to Wile E. and his family. I'm not even sure how it's spread. If it's through social contact, then there's no threat, 'cause the 'yotes dead if he gets that close to a wolf. But if it's one of those diseases that can sit in the ground and be picked up through a sniff, then it could very well work it's way west. Hope not.

I believe parvo can be spread from sniffing the urine or feces from an infected animal. When I took in a litter of orphaned goldens with it, I was told that I had to clean the entier house with disinfectant and even the backyard, to get rid of it.

Parvo exists in the "West" already, it is a real problem here in Baja Oregon.

I lost a pup to it about 20 years ago. Nasty stuff. Around here, if you want to keep your dog, you get it vaccinated.
Prevention is easy. The cure is difficult, very expensive, and anything but a sure thing.

I know alittle bit about Idaho wolves living right in the middle of Idaho. They eat our dogs/kill our sheep and cattle not to mention the impact they are putting on the Selway and Frank Church herds of Elk..

Other than that...I dispice the re-intro of them. They were already here and my neighbor in McCall Idaho was one of the first wolf researchers for the gov..but they don't listen...

Of course they wouldn't listen. I read at least 15 years ago that the anti's planned to use large preditors to reduce the game to unhuntable levels so hunting would have to be stopped. This is a political game, not a conservation game. They got the right people installed in the FWS and here we are.

I saw on KTVB ch 7 today that the USFS wants permision to fly choppers into the Frank Church to study the wolves, rather than hike in like everyone else. Interesting double standard. And what will a study prove? Idaho F&W already knows their elk populations are being cut in half. Idaho F&W (made up of Idaho residents) are much more likely IMO to favor saving Idaho's elk and deer than a federal agency who forgot how to manage timber.

The paper said this morning that the USFS has denied the IDFG request to fly choppers in there. Now they plan to attempt to trap some.

But-We are supposed t get a $50 dollar rebate for every resident for high heating cost but Idaho's minumum wage is $5.15 while Washingtons is $7.68(?)..No wonder Idaho is full of Washington hunters. They can afford to hunt Idaho while the cost for locals just keeps rising.

Last time the Fish and Game had a meeting here at the high school for in-put on regs ,they had cops standing by lining the parking lot.
