Nine-year-old Nate grassed his first big-game animal ever in Middle Tennessee in front of me, his Dad Jason, his cousin Hunter and friends Scott and Michelle. He had to come to Tennessee, where he has a Lifetime Sportsman's License, to do this because his home state, Colorado, thinks kids need to be 12 to hunt big game. Nate took the large-bodied 6-pointer with a single shot at a lasered 163 yards at about 1730 hours. He used a Winchester M70 Ranger pushfeed .243 I'd cut down the LOP to 11.5-in. then did a Jolly Roger flipflop pad, plopped on a Japanese Tasco 4X on it I've had for a dozen years. He used 'nilla Federal Powershok 100 grain load. From left, Scott, Nate, Jason Nate points out the Natural Born Killer buttpad on Sixkiller and its first prey with him at the helm.

I'd rather have a bad day hunting than a good day working!

Way to go!! Nice job young fella! I like the idea of lifetime licenses for kids. I think that makes a great Christmas or birthday gift. I wish Kentucky would do something along those lines, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Great take for a first deer. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to go afield with me. They are 4 and 3, so they'll have to wait a while longer.

I wish Kentucky would do something along those lines, but I doubt it will ever happen. I'd like to see our hunting/fishing licensing system receive a overhaul and upgrade. But your likely correct, it will never happen.

Hey Steve, at 163 yards he obviously got some of Uncle Dan's "Shooter" genes, huh?

Nice shooting, congrats to Nate.
