There are two loads that shoot very well in my SS Rem 700

45.5g of R#19 with a win primer, Rem brass

39.5-40.5g of IMR 4064 with a fed 210 primer

R#19 is faster

Seat bullets 0.050 off the lands

38/38.5 grains Varget has worked in five .243s here. Seating depth on them ranged from .010 to more than .120 and was important to critical on them all. Velocity ran close on 3200 with them. I think two were TTSXs (80 grain) and three were TSXs.

Just shot this group today with my Remington 660 .243 at 100 yards. Barnes 85 triple shock. 36 grains of 4320.

38.5 grains Varget for me. A very nice easy load, quite quiet, accurate, and gets the job done with either the 80TTSX or 85TSX.

I've shot my share of round of the 85 TSX using both Hunter & H414 (W760). Both worked very well.
Using Hunter, I worked from 44.5gr to 45.5gr, loaded to 2.676".

Using H414 (W760), worked well from 43.0 - 44.0gr loaded to the same 2.676". NOTE: This data exceeds Sierra's & Hornady's data for an 85gr bullet. Work up with caution.

Both powders metere really well and worked very well. I used CCI LRM primers since they are ball powders.

With that bullet weight, I'll normally reach for plain old generic IMR 4895 or 4064...

4064 if I am looking for max velocity...combined with accuracy..

working up from IMR's old brown sheet load data, folks would be surprised on how much velocity safely can be had out of a 243 with bullet weights from 75 to 90 grains... using 4064...

and ANY Barnes bullet in the 80 and 85 grain wts have shot real real well in any of the 243s I have used hunting... with target grade accuracy...

I use Varget or IMR-4064 with 70 gr Sierra Blitzkings or 75 gr V-Maxs with great results.

I use IMR4350 and the 80gr TTSX. My buddy uses Varget in his Tikka. No recovered bullets as of yet.

The one chance to recover a bullet was met with a medical emergency. My buddy shot a nice Mule deer buck, facing us, at about 175yds. The buck went straight down, and I'm thinking I'll finally recover a Barnes (85gr TSX in 243), no way did it penetrate stem-to-stern. So my buddy runs his knife blade from anus to throat, and grabs his hatchet to open the sternum. The first strike of the hatchet, he whacks his left thumb! It was a bad hit, and he has about 80% use of it now. I finished gutting the deer before taking him the the Dr.(on his suggestion) and found the bullet had gone through the lung, stomach and intestines. I did not have time to dig around the intestines for this bullet.
