New Zealand is a nice country, but tough gun laws, and taxes are surprisingly high. Items are expensive. With that said it would probably be my first choice, quality of life/people is good, and the country is fantastic. Fishing and Hunting is also very good.

Besides that I will stick it out in the US. Spent time in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Brazil and Canada, and while they all are nice, don't offer the goods/services that the US does. Plus most are so screwed up that its not worth it.

Alaska will succeed first.

You have 3 choices:

1) Another 1st world country - really, truly first world. And there's only a few. UK, France, Germany, Japan, Belgium, parts of Spain, Canada, and a few others.

The electricity runs 24/7, you have shops and restaurants open at night and with a good choice, you have safe areas - you have "things" that you take for granted.

But these countries taxation, socially liberal, and socialistic tendencies are worse than what you think you would be running from.

2) 2nd world country - South Africa, some Caribbean locations, perhaps Thailand, etc. The electricity goes off - often. In many places you have to drink bottled water. The stores sometimes have and sometimes don't have things you need/want. Simple things - bleach, detergents, washing machines ... don't exactly get you the results you are used to.

3) 3rd world - Caribbean nations, Latin America countries, etc. Argue all you want, but they are 3rd world **** holes when you get off the Club Med compound. Electricity is a crap shoot. Have heart burn at 11pm? Have fun .... Get a pain in your right side .... pray it isn't appendicitis.

Of course, you can go to an "ex-pat" retiree compound and live the life of luxury. But it isn't.

Not after you settle in. Your "new" house has a problem with electricity burning out bulbs ... live with it. The "public" water pressure goes down during the heavy season ..... get used to bailing pool water with a bucket to replenish your toilet bowl so you can flush your turd down ....

Those nice people in the local town who you think are your friends?? Wait until one day a local throws themselves in front of your car outside a shop, and you slam on your brakes and barely bump them. Then the local police come ..... they don't have courts, police, lawyers, and the system you are used to .... you will reach into your pocket and pull out some green to pay them off, and you will have that on you because you will have witnessed another ex-pat get hauled off to the local jail and kept their 2 days until his wife brought the cash in!

People have no ****ing comprehension what it is like living outside the US, and the value of the freedoms, protections, rights, and services we have.

You go to another country to live, in essence you are there as an invited, tolerated guests that last as long as they wish, and to what extent their tolerance goes ... depending on who you may piss off, who is related to whom, and how much you are willing to bow your head in submission ....

You have that pretty well figured out which is why I'm still here.

Canada! I believe we are soon going to be taxed on par with Canada (or more) yet we will still be paying out the ass for healthcare anyway. Not to mention the great hunting and fishing opportunities.

I am seriously thinking of moving out of Colorado. Would love to move to Montana. More hunting, and I could run a trapline again. It is a God damn embarrasment that CO is a blue state now.

PS. Just got a spine injection and AFTER insurance I owe $1500! They billed my insurance over $6000, now THAT is what is wrong with our healthcare system.

Multiple people have mentioned New Zealand. Really? NZ and Australia are the poster children for a socialist nanny state. Both have sky high taxes and more people on welfare than you would ever believe. Both have their good points, but living in either isn't for the faint hearted.

I have lived overseas, in multiple countries and I can tell you that there is nowhere better than the good 'ol US of A. We have freedoms that most other people in the world can't even comprehend.

Suck it up, ladies and gentlemen, we're in for a rough ride. We'll get through these turbulent times, but there may be some vomit on the floor by the time it's over.

For those of you who are thinking about third world countries after living here, you had better think twice. As disgusted as most are with Obama, including myself, it's a damn site better to stay here than to pick up and move to some obscure place. I have traveled extensively and except for Switzerland I haven't seen anything that can match us for lifestyle, convenience, freedom, education and healthcare. The true secret is to find a spot here that you like. Some like warm climates, some like snow, some are willing to put up with earthquakes, Tornadoes, floods, etc. to live where they like it.
I'm too old to move, but I am like some other's. I'm going to hang around and fight against the Socialist leaders that we have now with all I can muster. American's don't give up. Who was it that said, "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country"?

I wish i could find a place like America "unf****d" but as I assumed it doesn't exist. I also have travelled abroad extensively and couldn't wait to get back. Maybe we should just move to a red state like TX and get away from all this lliberal trash here in NoVA. It's too depressing living this close to DC.

I hear you, neighbor smile You couldn't not find many hussain's signs in our area, but it is the NoVA that turned the whole state blue.

If you really want to live in a different country, try Northern California.
