The Crooked Tree
The Oil Tank
The Cat Rocks (Had a bobcat hanging out there for several years before they were even remotely in the area. Sill not common, but PA does have a season)
The Kill Shanty
The Skyscraper (about 45' up a huge oak tree)
F.O.D. (Field of Death, many, many deer shot in it every year. We stand someone looking over it for about 4 different drives. All of them have the potential to put deer across the field)
Cow Feeder (Round Bale Feeder we move to the middle of a field every year for our two week season and wrap in an old canvas tarp)
The Buckets
The Car Door (Old car door off the edge of a strip mine that no one knows why it's there)

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, used up, worn out, bottle of Jim Beam in one hand and a .45 in the other, loudly proclaiming WOW-- What a Ride!"

Whelen Nut and I used to hunt with a family friend in the Bates/Amasa area of the Michigan's UP. Normally a pretty darn good shot, he missed a "gimme" on a small knob next to a cedar swap. From then on, he referred to the spot as "miss hill". grin

The Double-wide - Yep, big enough for two.
The Bread-and-butter stand - If you don't get at least one shot at a legal deer it's because you slept all day.
The Condo - Nice view, and room to kick back and relax.
The Double Decker - Lower level for bowhunting, and another platform up in nosebleed territory for rifle season.
The Oak Tree stand - Yep, it's in a big oak tree.
The Barn Ridge stand - On the ridge just above the barn.

Others based on their location near the Big Field, the Pond Field, the Middle Field, the Lower Field, and the Bowl Field.

Sighand our poor neighbor. What can I say. He's an accountant, and all of his stands have numbers. He'll tell ya, "I started out in #1, and then around noon moved to the #4 stand."

Buck Stand-me, my uncle and brother all killed bucks from this stand the first three days we hunted this area.

Gut in the creek-a crossing on McGee creek where many deer were killed until the state flooded the area for a lake.

Death alley

Toll booth-my new favorite.

Funny you mention that.

There are A LOT of wood peckers in that area, but on one particular morning, a new guy that was with us for the first(and last) time was placed in that stand. There is typically a fair amout of deer sign there, so we put the new guy in it.

He got annoyed by the woodpeckers there and proceeded to shoot one. He was pretty proud of it and brough it out for us to see at lunch time. crazy His uncle called him a pecker-head and the stand was named "The Pecker Stand".

He was never invited back.

Campground- closest to the family campground -- my favorite
Garbage Pit- Close to a sink hole that the previous owner used to throw away old fridges and stuff. It's actually a beautiful place
Heartbreak Ridge -- Named for a hike #2 son and I took the first month we had the place. The kid sat down at the farthest reach from the house and announced he was going no farther.
Newstand -- A newer place after we stopped using Heartbreak Ridge
Lazy Boy -- #3 Son's place. Doesn't have to climb a ladder to see deer
Dead Skunk Hollow -- Named for a dead skunk
Virginia -- named for the refrain from "The Hillbilly Song" ( . . .'Cuz halfway up Virginia is where I wanna be!"

Others: Cheesy Hollow, Beaver Seep, One Hand, Hundred Acre Wood, Squirrel Cage, Gobbler's Knob, Fountain Square

The "Little Taj" as in Taj Mahal:

[Linked Image]

Then There is the "Taj", which is the deluxe version of which I will take a pic of in a day or so. They both sit out in an open field and have been there for at least 15 years. They have become part of the landscape as far as the Deer are concerned. They both are death traps and while the number of Deer taken from them is unknown, it is many. The stories those walls could tell....
