I've been hunting northern MN with my good friend Randy for a number of years on his property and surrounding areas in northern MN. (you'll know him as handwerk - one of our resident pre64 nuts) I was fortunate to be in one of Randy's strategically located ladder stands when the above creature made an appearance. It all happened pretty quickly and thank goodness I had the gun across my lap for easy access or he'd have zipped across the opening without a shot opp. I believe the shot was around 175 yards - no need for a rangefinder in that country. He kicked at the report but was gone in an instant. I had no idea if I'd even hit him but the mule kick gave me reason for hope so I sat and gathered my thoughts (generally a short supply) for a good while before I went back to Camp Handwerk to seek counsel. We agreed that Randy would head up and old trail and watch a ridge densely populated with moose brush in the event the deer was hit but yet expired. I'd sneak in to where he was standing the last time I saw him. I got to the spot - nada. No blood, hair etc. Made two fairly small circles, still nothing. Decided to head up the ridge where I could look down and survey from atop. I'd gone perhaps twenty yards when I spied the deer lying next to a huge cedar tree but his head was blocked from view. When I made my way around the tree I was a wee astonished that I hadn't noticed that the buck was of rather sizeable proportions. Frankly, I never paid attention to his headgear as I was more concerned about settling the crosshairs on the fast-trotting buck. I just knew he had sufficient headgear to pull the trigger. I'd wondered for an instant if it was actually the deer I had shot at. The generous blood trail down the hill confirmed it was and perhaps it's a good thing I didn't know how big he was or the heavy breathing may have sent the shot into orbit. Randy soon made his way over so we did some admiring and a photo opp. While I'm pretty serious about deer, the longer I'm at this deer chasin' thing, the more I appreciate hunting with good friends - and Randy is definitely that. And a big part of me wishes it was the host in the stand on Monday morning instead of me. Of course, it took him exactly 1 day to put a nice 10 pointer on the ground - he just needed me to get the heck out of his house. SKane and handwerk Misc.____________ Rifle - 280 / 700 KS Bullet - 145 Speer Pass-through - yes Scope - 2.5x8 VX3 Guide - handwerk Deer weight - 240# sans innards Points - 11 Score - big __________

After looking at the pictures again, your going to have to take off the boots to score this one.

Don't let SKane down play this buck folks. I had my hands on the rack yesterday. It's a monster and has a few of the coolest tines you can get on a buck if you ask me.
Lots of character and a hellova buck!!!
Congrats Scott on another dandy!
