Has anyone here ever used this company? Thinking about having an old remington 721 in 270 bored out to either a 35 whelen or 9.3x62. I don't have much at all invested in this rifle.Quick story, I bought an old sporterized 303 british about 2 years agofrom a woman whose husband went insane for $65. Fast forward to about 3 months ago, I swapped the 303 even up for a Beretta silver pigeon 12 gauge pump shotgun.Fast forward again to about 3 weeks ago I traded the beretta even up for the 270. So except for a little time invested, the way I figure it I got $65 in it. Anyway, any input about J E S would be appreciated. Turn around time, quality of work, and any other issues someone may have had. Thanks, Don

He rebored and rechambered an 8x57mm Brno Mauser to 9.3x62mm for me a few months ago. About a week door to door and a lot cheaper than you would think. He did an excellent job. The barrel is as smooth as glass. I would and have highly recommend JES.

Thanks for the replies. Pacecars that is exactly the kind of input that I'm after. I see on his website that he offers 3 groove for $225 and 4 and 5 groove is $250. Now I don't know squat about this stuff, so what does that mean and what would be recommended. I am really leaning towards going with a 35 whelen. Thanks, Don

I have a 35 Whelen and a 338-06, both rebored 30-06's, done by JES. Both are fantastic shooters. Can't say enough good things about Jesse's work.

I've had 3 rifles rebored by JES. 1, '06 to 338-06, and 2 06's to 9.3x62mm. Turn-around on all 3 was 2 weeks to the day - round trip. As for 3, 4, 04 5 groove, give JES a call, I'm sure that they'll be happy to explain. (FWIW, when you call leave a call-back number they can reach you at late in the day or evening, as most of the time they are in the shop and return calls late. They DO return calls.)

Randall Redman rebored my pre '64 M/70 to .35 Whelen several years ago, he did an outstanding job. The rifle is very accurate, it is my go to hunting rifle. I like the .35 caliber's flexibility, I shoot everything from jacketed and cast .357 pistol bullets to 180gr. to 250gr. rifle bullets in both cast and jacketed form. Seems to shoot them all satisfactory and very little load development work is needed. I recommend the .35 Whelen very highly.

I've had two rifles bored up to .358 Win by Jesse.
Both turned out very nice and shoot well.

I plan on sending another to him in the next year.

Wow this guy seems to have an excellent reputation. Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going to get it done. I believe I'm gonna get this one turned into a 35 whelen. Will probably wait till after the holidays are over to do it.I think I will have to call them and see what he recommends as far as 3,4,or 5 groove. Also, is it better to send them the whole rifle or just the barrelled action? Thanks for all your help guys and I'm sure I will have more questions as this project progresses. After I get it rebored I want to get a nice walnut monte carlo stock for it, but that will be for another thread LOL.

I believe he likes to have the entire rifle sent to him, but once you give him a call he'll let you know all the details. As mentioned earlier, most of the time you get his answering machine as he's out in the shop, but do indeed leave your name/number and he always calls back.

As far as 3/4/5 groove, he'll do whatever you like. But since 35's are his specialty, for my rifles I simply told him to do what he thought best for the situation. I know he seems to like 3 groove for the 358, and that's what he did in my rifles.

Again, once you talk with him it'll sort itself out rather easily. Best of luck with your project!

Three grooves rather than five mean 40% fewer passes of the cutting hook. Time savings.

.....could be, but I believe he does the same for his personal guns where time or money may not be an issue.

Either way, the results I got on sighting in with plain old factory ammo were impressive and I have zero complaints. wink

2 of my rebores were on Rem 700s, and one on an Interarms MkX. In each case I only sent the complete barreled action along with the complete bolt, trigger, and bottom metal. The returned product included a representative target after the re-bore.

That said, I believe Jesse may have a 'stash' of stocks available (bolt action anyway) that he can drop an action into and test fire. Doesn't hurt to call and find out though.

He just had me send the barrelled action in so he could test fire it after reboring
