Those 303s are good medicine for mule deer. Here is one taken a few years back with my 1927 vintage 303-G. Not as big a deer or gun as Matt's and no coyote, but a decent deer for our part of the country. This little G shoots 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards just like Matt's B with a Lyman 57 for my old eyes. Lung shot with Winchester factory 190 gr. Silvertip at 100 yards. Buck traveled about 40 yards before folding up. Really nice buck, Mattgotta love that 303 cartridge.

griz, that's a great deer and I bet it was a great hunt.
303Mike, my load uses 170 grain Speer HotCor flat point, 33 grains of IMR 4320, a 9 1/2 primer all in a Norma case. Velocity is 2080 fps. This load is very accurate in both my .303 Savages Models B and C. I'm working with 190 grain cast bullets. But I like the Speers so much it's going to be hard for me to change.

Way too cool!!!! For the first time ever I took one of my Savages, an 1899H in 25-35, on a hunt. Only a whitetail doe, but still had the cool factor. That's a nice muley to take with the old Savage. Congratulations.

Congratulations. The decision to leave my tack driving 7-08 at home and take a 99 is getting easier and easier.

That's the same conclusion I came to willowcreek. It seems to me that "tack driving" ability in a big game rifle might just be over rated for most hunting situations. It certainly is neat, but far from necessary. I strive for the best accuracy I can, don't get me wrong. But the reality is that even a 3" "atta hunurd" rifle still hits within 1 1/2" either side of the intended target. That's this far ---------------------. If I can hit every deer or elk I shoot at from field positions within a 3" radius at 200 yards or even 6" at 400 yards, I'd be pretty happy (not that I do, 400 yards is a long dam way). Hell, doping the wind correctly where I hunt has more effect on bullet placement than the accuracy of the rifle. 303 B Groups for sight adjustment 100 yards

Someone recently made the mistake in another thread concerning the nicest rifle savage ever made (pre-war R), They must have momentarily forgotten about the G.

Good job! I am thinking about getting into the .303 Savage.
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
