Today while out looking to fill a Doe tag I bumped into an old friend who was trying for a Buck. I said let me put on some drives for you and we spent the next 5 hours trying to push one out with no luck. Finally he says he will take a Doe and I suggested we hit the "Taj" for the last hour and a half.

The "Taj":

Out in the open, but an ambush with few equals to fill a Doe tag in the evening.
Now he has been carrying around a heavy 760 with a big scope for years. Earlier in the day he picked up my new Nula .223AI with a 6x36 and you could see the look of amazement on his face.

One of the best Ruffed Grouse hunters ever put on the face of this earth, but when it come to rifles he knows little and admits he is not all that good and hates the recoil of his .30-06. We are there about 45minutes and I see a Doe move into the field and point it out. Range it at 155yards and ask if he is going to shoot it. He says I'll never hit it that far away and I ask if he wants to use my rifle and he doesn't have to worry about recoil. I have him rest on the rail and dry fire once and tell him just place the cross hairs on her shoulder and squeeze easy. 62 grain TSX flew true and she ran about 20 yards and went down.

So an old friend Christened a new rifle for me today. We both drove home with a big grin. I least I know I did and I'm pretty sure he did also.

Congrats to all you guys who've tagged out, and good luck to the ones who haven't yet. Looking at your pics takes me back home, at least for a minute or two.

Good story Battue, to me, that is what hunting is about, sharing good times with good friends with a deer kill as a bonus.

My son saw a half dozen does but couldn't get a shot, I never saw a deer. I did take the Win 94 (32 Spl) to the woods though, it hasn't been hunted since 1975. So the day goes in the win column.

Filled out my Doe tag this afternoon and the "Taj" came through again.

Nice deer, for sure. And the smile tells the tale.

But.....I gotta ask. Is that an albino beside his?

We've enjoyed a great season in PA. My grandfather (disabled vet) thumped a bb in the early season and cracked a nuisance bear thats been causing damage. both killed with his. 243.. bear dressed at 183#.
I killed a 16" wide 7pt in archery and had to break in a new crossbow on a doe.
My 9 year old son then used the crossbow on a rutted up 5pt last week of archery. Was his first buck and second deer ever!! We were more than ecstatic!
My 13 year old daughter then scores on a plump doe! .243 85gr tsx. Also her second deer ever.
buddy of mine cracked a nice buck with his. 284.. 18" wide 8pt.
Ill get some pics up soon!

Congrats to everyone and good luck to the rest still trying!

Our kills have been spread out all over 2F and one in 1B My doe tag to transfer to the boy is for 1B so we arent killing all our stock this season. This season will go down as one of our greatest!
