Just thinking about downsizing and maybe taking the money and ordering a NULA. Lets see the photos, details and how you like them. I could not imagine paying that much for a rifle but looking around at some of the others out there it still seemss to be a good deal overall.

Thanks

I started out with the 257AI and the 284 basically as a matched pair. I remember that I sold 7 or 8 decent rifles and several decent scopes to get the funds for them. I have not regretted it. Bought all of mine second-hand.

At the risk of making the others envious, the 250AI is my fqvorite. But the 284 Win is the classic NULA that I've wanted since I was a kid in the 80's.

I have a .260 that is an excellent shooter. Very much a 3/4 MOA (5 shots) or better rifle with Barnes 127 LRX. Shoots even better with Sierras, but I'm running all monos this season.

Additional Pros:

Trigger is excellent.

Bolt-locking safety (I love this feature, some don't)

Stupidly light weight.

Best feeling hunting-rifle stock I've ever handled, though the McMillan Game Scout EDGE I just got bedded & put together on a different .260 will likely become my favorite due to its versatility.

Cons:

I want more of them after shooting the first.

Bolt knob is a touch smaller than my personal ideal knob would be

No floorplate. Some prefer this, I don't. Not a big issue, however.

Overall, I absolutely love mine and have ordered a Forbes '06 as a result (got my .260 used and can't swing a new ULA '06 at the moment, though I will pony up when I can. That maple leaf camo is calling to me......

Anyone have any good pics of the Maple leaf camo. I'm sending a Colt Light Rifle off to Melvin to be built and I'm thinking that is the paint I'm wanting.

Les, are you going with 338-06 then? I think running tbe 185 TSX in one would be some good poison for just about anything with four legs.

If you buy my Montana it will be a 338-06AI with a #2 Douglas. If I have to keep my 300 WSM I'm thinking 280AI or 6.5-06

That rifle was a hell of a buy last year, regret not seeing it first.

ULA 7mm-08(1991), #1 contour, Swaro Z3 3-9x36 in Talley LW's, 6 lbs scoped, shooting 120gr NBT's and TTSX's well. Took it to WY this year for my first antelope hunt. Dropped a decent buck at 250yds with 120gr NBT. The stock and trigger are excellent. If I were to build one from scratch, I'd probably go with a #2 contour. I'd like a little more weight up front.

Any idea how much weight the #2 contour adds in say a 22" tube? Very nice rifles so far, that 250ai is the is the cat's meow and would be a nice match to the 284 winny

Douglas states 2 1/4# for a #1 cut at 22" finished at .560"
2 3/4# for a #2 cut at 24" finished at .600"
These weights are approximate per Douglas.
Plans of now is to go with a #2 at 24" in 338/06 for my CLR conversion.

Very nice. I also assume with a bit of weight forward with the #2 contour? Seeing that you have the different configurations, in your opinion what would you say balance and handles best.

Thanks
