I built 2 new long range rigs this past year. Here's one I'm especially happy with. .284 Win Tikka Action, Faced Off and Squared Trigger Adjusted to 1-3/4# .250" Custom Built Lug between Barrel and Action Kreiger #5 Bull Sporter 26" Throated For Berger VLD's Vais Brake McMillan A3 NF 5.5-22X50 HS/ZS (Mil Dot/MOA) Shooting in the 5's during break-in/fireforming brass. 53.5gr H4831 SC shows the most promise so far, but anything between that and 55.5 is shooting consistently good with 168 VLD's. I'll shoot some 180's this weekend.

The rifle is very cool! What were your color %'s on your Mcmillan? Fixing to order one myself and really like the way your stock turned out.

I've had a 284 or two around for almost 40 years. Loaded most of that time with bullets from the 130 Speer to 150 Hornady's and some variety of 4350 powder. Lately, I've gone to 4831SC and the 140 Nosler Partition. 4831SC was on the shelf and I'd run out of 4350 but had a hunch I could get enoughe extra SC into the case to make it work. No other powder combines the accuracy and velocity I'm getting from 4831SC.

Custom made recoil lug. I had 4 made at the same time, for future builds.

Thanks, I like the way that barrel looks in the A3 stock. I've had varmint contour barrels in that stock but I'm thinking on a 30-06 build on an A3 and would like to use a lighter barrel. That Krieger #5 looks like just the right balance.

I still can't grasp keep this and [bleep] canning the 700..... That 700 has your name all over it. Your choice of action, your choice of barrel, your choice of 'smith. [/quote]

Did you have to alter the magazines to get the .284 case to feed?

I doubt very few would pay the price. The start up fee for the CNC alone was as much as the barrel. Then there was special stainless stock, then machining, then surface grinding, then...well, you know. Well worth it tho, in my mind.
