Thanks for posting, by the picture I thought he was a tough, ornery old bird...by your Cabela's story, I would say that's true! Congrats to him and I hope I get to have almost as many experiences as him!!!

Congrats to him and I hope I get to have almost as many experiences as him!!! That dudes about as tough as they come. Spent a lot of time as a logger in Washington before the war. Sounds like they stayed in the woods all week and raised hell in town on the weekends. When he was in his 80's, my mom thought he was having a stroke in church. He was slumped over in the pew and not moving one of his arms. She got up to check on him and it turned out a mule had kicked him the day before and broken several ribs. He hadn't gone to the doctor yet but knew they were broke because he could feel them moving around when he breathed. When he was in his early nineties, he broke his ankle. He waited three days to go to the doc because he had stuff to do. And the reason he wants a woman who can drive is because he says at his age he doesn't have time to be chauffeuring any women around.
Don't just be a survivor, be a competitor.

Well make sure he can go collect another next year. 98 years, been there and done that. The Elk hunting kept him alive what else could it be.

Thanks for sharing. The stories of his interactions with the waitress remind me of my grandfather who would always order "windmill water"
That generation is/was pretty special. They saw a lot of things change drastically.

I'd love to go hunting with him. We could talk each others ears off with hunting stories.
Then we could haul out the meat 10 lbs at a time. Might take awhile.

Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

Good for our uncle!!!
Granddad shot his first big game animal, a whitetail, when he was 83. Gave it up some years later after taking his 3rd, said it was "too much work". Wish I'd been there to help him take more, but he lived a long day's drive away. He passed away a year ago, age 100.

Congrats. I want to be like him! If I can't get out and shoot and hunt, I can't imagine living!

Good for him. I don't share the commonly held view around here that high fence ranch hunting is unsportsmanlike, especially if you are limited by age and physical condition. This hunt will be a memory that you and he should cherrish...

I sort of do Gary. I want my last hunt to be as good as all the past hunts. When I can't do it my way. I'll know i'm done.
Just my .02 for myself.
