Thinking about getting one of these for a model seven 308.

Anybody have/had one -what do you think about them ?

Been wanting a ballistic reticle for a while -this would be used for stalking in swamps and shooting from an elevated shooting blind where ranges can be 50 too 500yds with very little time to shoot down thick pine lanes.
OK thanks -Mike

I have the 4.5x and the 3x9 model. They are pretty decent glass, dependable, but FOV is small on the 4.5. I have one mounted on a .223 if you want I will make you a good deal on it for much less than new. PM me if interested.

I have the 4.5-14 on a 22lr and it suits the need due to the AO but I don't think it is bright enough or has a wide enough field of view for me to use it on a centerfire. I think a high quality 2-7 or 3-9 that is scaled for a smaller gun would suit your needs better.

.............+1

Cannot comment on the 4.5-14x32 Timberline glass, but will agree that this particular scope atop a more compact rifle such as the M7 might be a little too heavy at 15 oz.

The whole idea behind a more compact rifle in the first place is handiness, faster manuverability, easier carrying etc. Imo, the scope`s size for length is about right, but at 15 oz, it is too heavy. And IIRC, the OD of the objective end on that Timberline with its AO, is about the same as most 40mm objectives w/o an AO.

A lighter good quality 10-13 ounce w/o AO; 2-7x32-33 or a 3-9x32 to 35 would have a better looking lower profile on an M7. They will get the job done for shots out to 500-600 yards.

For hog sized game and larger, most hunters including me seldom exceed 5x-6x for kill shots anyway.

Also. Anytime you increase magnification for a kill shot, it also increases one`s scope wobble to certain degrees depending on the individual. Too much scope wobble causes more hesitation and uncertainty before the shot is taken.

And when hunting in more heavier terrains, a wider FOV on the low end such as with a 2x or 3x, will be preferred vs a 4.5x on the low end as well.

6x36 w/ LRD, 2-7 Vortex Viper from Doug w/ BDC or a 2-7 Revolution w/ Accurange would probably be my first picks

A 2-8x32 Monarch will look better.
