Just wondering. I was hunting yesterday and my dog was circling and came across another dog. The dog bite mine in the ear pretty bad. I didn't see it till we moved on and the owner of the other was very sorry. I wasn't mad but,
Is this normal behavior? My dogs will sniff, but I have not seem them act aggressive.

Dogs, like people, come with all kinds of attitudes.
I'll put up with a little posturing and attitude as long as I am not in the immediate vicinity (hunting field) but when I get there I am the alpha and [bleep] is coming to an end.
An actual bite or "attack" with ill intent is not good or common IMHO.
Was there a bird or something on the ground they were scrappin over?

Nothing, only thing I can figure is my dog was coming over to him and his owner? Maybe trying to protect? Anyway he is alright and it affected me more then the dog.

I have friends with E pointers. We hunt the dogs in pairs , have to be real careful on the match ups. Serious dog fights. That's why I love setters, they're only mad at the birds. Hasbeen

males/ females/ neutered?
Many things can go awry when two strangers meet up. My pointer is rather small for the breed, but he's a scrapper when pushed beyond reasonable limits. Interestingly, he has never been wounded in a snarl up.
The owner's reaction as sympathetic should be enough to let it go if your pup is ok....
