Anyone want to predict if the bullet industry will give a decent supply to newer bullets to give new life in this round?
Set up right, I could see it keeping up w/a 6.5-06 or 280.
Well, unless the industry got behind the 6.5/06 producing rifles/ammo, but it's so crowded now, not looking for that to happen.
Splitting hairs, and the 270 may sound boring, but alot of cheap brass/ammo around, and it would be easier than forming brass for a 6.5, and perhaps a tad less recoiling than a 280 or 7 mag shooting the heavies.
IIRC Nosler has a new LR AB coming out in .277 and it may prefer a 9 twist, which would mean custom of course.

The new 150 ABLR will spin out of a 10T, and where I'm at in elevation, the 165 Matrix does too. Both of those will/are beasts, especially out of a .270 WSM.
A .270-300 Winchester might be really fun...

Those in need of high BC bullets have some options now.I see the 270's popularity and use in the hunting fields continuing unabated.
Not that it ever needed a popularity boost.270 ammo flies off the shelf come hunting season, and good rifles so chambered(new and used)don't last long while "hot" new calibers seem to linger,longer....I know top level competitive shooters who hunt with it,despite using other stuff in competition.
The only place I have heard disparaging comments about 270's are among those having scant experience with it,and on here.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

65BR,
Have you heard that Berger is making a 170 gr high BC .270 bullet?
It is going to be marketed by Bob Beck of Extreme Outer Limits. It is undergoing testing right now but production will be in the immediate future. Bet it will be out before the LR Accubonds.
Name is Berger EOL 170 gr Estimated G1 .703 G7 BC: .360 requires a 1 in 8.5 twist
This would be great with a 270 ROY.

Anytime..... thought to be honest.... I have owned, loaded for, and killed with more than one .270. But, I've spent many years rehabilitating with 7mms..... it was a long way back, and I'm still ashamed to this day.
You know what they say about prison may be appropriate for .270 shooters....... you're only gay for the stay.....

I always keep an eye open on local used gun shops and private sales and .270's sell dang quick. While the mag stuff often sits on the rack from one month to the next. A local dealer told me his fastest moving sales are .243 followed by .270.

I know three hunters who got new rifles this year (none of these are their first rifle) and each of them bought 270's.

Az-s - that will be a good option spun right. Tanner, no doubt, read about the new Noz - that it will work in a 10, but preferred w/9. Never said a 270/10t is a bad rig, they do well. Almost as well as a 6.5x55 or 260 tick tock tick..... On a serious note, what bullet are you 270 fans using for longish shots on game? I always loved the 150 BT, looked like a mini-ICBM. Killed great too. Run some of those and p/u some 140s just b/c for my older son's rifle he had passed on to him.

.270s have always had bright new futures.... you can neck them down to 6.5mm.... or up to 7mm.

.270s have always had bright new futures.... you can neck them down to 6.5mm.... or up to 7mm. Good one Hopefully my 270 WSM Montana ends up as a 7mm WSM this summer as I can't stand .277 bores. But until then I feed it 150 SSTs at 3050 fps with RL22.
If I were smart enough, which apparently I'm not

Or leave them as be and kill a pile of stuff A thorn in the side of the 7mm and 6.5 folks.... That a magnum 7 beats a standard 270 should come as no surprise...after all they hold more powder, and the bullets are heavier.....Equally true that the 270 Win has more than won the popularity race going away, reason being, it works. If it didn't,people wouldn't shoot animals with them. Not many cartridges (a handful really)have the worldwide track record of the 270 Win on BG animals....and not just pint sized deer and antelope, either. I was never one to get in a funk over .007 of bullet diameter, letting the available rifle and my bullet stocks make the decision, but do prefer a 7mm in a larger hull.....been shooting a 7 mag for about 35 years...its' capabilities come as no surprise(besides, I'm open minded These newer bullets put a 270 Winchester on even keel with any 7mm or 6.5 having the same powder capacity...seems .277 detractors don't like to discuss the newer high BC bullets coming on board. But this seems to be a CF fad more than anything else, and for general purpose hunting I don't think BC is the sole standard for bullet selection anyway, and in the crew of widely traveled BG hunters I grew up with, it was a rather odd criteria, bullet construction being considered a lot more important as some of these boys were rolling grizzly, elk, and moose with theirs, along with Grand Slams of sheep and assorted African plains game. They got around to a far greater degree than most, and filled trophy rooms with the cartridge. And if a guy is just now coming around to faster twists than 10" in the 270 bores, I don't know where he's been the last 30+ years....RinB and I(among others)have been building them 8.5"-9" since the 80's. Like many things on the CF,those recently discovering something leads them to the eroneous conclusion that they found something "new",and of "superior technology" to anything before it.This is the folly of youth.....makes for humorous reading. Not having anything better to do,I jotted down these figures from the Nosler manual, which tend to confirm intuition....that being, that the 7mm's and 6.5's don't materially exceed anything .277 until bullet weights hit at least 140 gr in the 6.5,and 160 gr in the 7mm's.Here's few.You can dig around for more from other manufacturers if you like: 6.5 130 gr AB .488 270 140AB .496 270 150BT .496 7mm 140AB .483 7mm 150BT .493 So, the guy running around with the 280 pushing a 140AB (a pet bullet on here),and thinking he has a "superior" outfit to a 270 Win pushing a 140AB,is living in LaLa land. ...ditto the fella with the 7mm WSM and 150BT vs the other with a 270WSM and 150BT.And the guy with a 130AB in 6.5?I don't see him as clearly in the drivers seat either.. Like I said...the clear advantage only comes with the heaviest 6.5 and 7mm bullets, and things like the new 277 Bergers that AZshooter mentioned, the 277 Matrix stuff, and the newer 277 Nosler AB's,eliminate,or narrow that gap.Game over.... Not that I care much ....with both 270's and magnum 7mm's hanging around, I can scratch any itch I want, and not worry about who's right and wrong...and when I sit across the table at dinner with someone like John Burns, and he tells me that (paraphrased) "..JOC was right....anyone who thinks the 270 is a chump change elk cartridge is crazy....." I worry even less about it than I ever did
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
